According to the defence sources, the bomb was apparently placed under an external unit of an air conditioning unit of Hotel Nippon. The explosion was triggered off as the army bus and another public bus were passing the location. The bus was carrying unarmed soldiers who are undergoing specialized treatments for various illnesses.

Besides, the building of the Roman Catholic Church and few vehicles received damages in the explosion.

A defence observer expressing his view on the bomb attack told defence.lk that the terrorists had shrewdly planned this attack to target civilians while pretending it to be an attack at armed forces. The aim of the terrorists was to kill maximum number of civilians while avoiding blame for their deaths, he added.

LTTE is a ruthless terrorist outfit that has been fighting for a mono ethnic separate homeland for the Tamils living in Sri Lanka. Holding on to its extreme tribal ideologies, LTTE carries out bomb blasts, ethnic cleansing massacres, assassinations targeting both Sinhala and Muslim people living in the country. Also, the outfit that claims itself to be the sole representative of all Tamils living in the world has been engaged in a process of eliminating all democratic Tamil political leaders in Sri Lanka during last 3 decades.

Open Letter to Mr. Gotabhaya Rajapaksa, Defence Secretary - Flush out undesirables in Colombo - The intelligence wing in the forces is quite aware of the fact that the murderous LTTE personnel have moved to the capitol city to instill fear in to the general masses and to destabilize the nation. This is an open secret to the entire world Once, the law enforcing agents with the view of flushing out the LTTE agents conducted a door to door search and was in the process of packing back the suspected/undesirable elements to where they belong to, as they couldn’t give a valid reason to live in Colombo. This was criticized, condemned by local politicians and the international community as an inhumane act by the Sri Lankan government just to harass the innocent Tamils. On this issue either the government over reacted, succumbed to external pressure or merely on humility allowed them to stay and went to the extent of a which hunt to find who done it! At a time, for the first time in the brutal conflict we are now observing that our gallant forces are advancing on the enemy progressively, so this type of sporadic attacks are the only way to create disgust, protest among the public. The intention is two fold, to kill innocent people expecting a public unrest and then to get the support of those TRAITORS, who with their parliamentary privileges roam from country to country ridiculing the victories of the forces and over plying insignificant incidents, and to raise their voices to declare to the World that the government must stop this on slaught immediately (Full letter in SPUR).

They obviously did not have an inkling of what ‘ethnic cleansing’ was all about. Four killed,28 hurt in City bomb blast Tigers target bus carrying wounded soldiers - The Tigers, reeling under intense military action on their Vanni strongholds, yesterday targeted a bus carrying a group of wounded and sick army personnel in Colombo close to Army Headquarters killing four and injuring 28. The majority of the soldiers in the bus were war wounded from the northern theatre of operations. The ill-fated bus was on its way from the headquarters to an army medical facility at Narahenpita when a claymore mine blast, activated from inside Manning Mansions (Hotel Nippon), at Kumaran Rutnam Road, Slave Island, hit it at 9.30 a.m. Among the dead were a soldier and three civilians, including a woman who was passing by at the time of the blast. Military sources said the claymore mine exploded inside the hotel at its entrance when the bus approached. "The Tigers had chosen the most strategic location to place the high explosive device, with prior information that the bus was moving on this particular route." Intelligence reports had indicated that the Tigers were targeting the movement of military personnel and advised the changing of routes and the times of the movements. "But those responsible had not heeded these warnings making the innocent soldiers sitting ducks," an official said (Full report in Island).

Four killed in claymore attack on Army bus - A claymore mine targeting an Army bus exploded in front of Nippon Hotel, Slave Island yesterday, killing four persons including two school children and injuring 24 others. Three civilians and a soldier were killed when the claymore mine went off around 9.30 a.m, Military spokesman Brigadier Udaya Nanayakkara said. "The Army bus plying from Army Headquarters to the Narahenpita hospital carrying 13 soldiers was targeted by the LTTE," he added. Director of Colombo National Hospital Accident Service Dr. Anil Jasinghe said 28 persons were admitted to the hospital from the blast site and four of them died before admission including a female civilian. "Four critically injured were treated at the Intensive Care Unit and the rest who suffered minor injuries were treated in wards 72 and 73," he told the Daily News. Preliminary investigations revealed the claymore mine was placed inside the external unit of an air conditioner of the Nippon Hotel (Full report in Daily News).

A deplorable attack - The Sri Lankan public was rudely awakened yesterday by yet another bomb explosion in the heart of the City which claimed the lives of four persons including two schoolchildren. The claymore mine set off at the busy Slave Island bazaar somewhat close to the Army Headquarters also injured 25 others, including soldiers, women and children. An Army bus was the target of the attack. Coming a day after the assassination of Parliamentarian T. Maheshwaran yesterday's incident no doubt is an unsettling prospect for the public. It is also a chilling reminder of the brutality of the LTTE. It is the third such attack within the City in the course of one month following the bomb attack at the Nugegoda No Limit store and the explosion at the office of the EPDP leader Douglas Devananda. If past experience is anything to go by then the public will have to brace themselves for similar bomb attacks particularly at a time when the LTTE is on the retreat in their strongholds and is bound to cause mayhem in other parts of the country. The Tigers, by all accounts, are on their last legs. There is also the likelihood of the LTTE carrying out more such attacks in the City and also in other parts of the South so as to take the heat off the military thrust in the Wanni and also shore up morale of its rapidly depleting cadres (Full report in Daily News).

Open Letter to Mr. Gotabhaya Rajapaksa,  Defence Secretary, Government of Sri Lanka Colombo, Sri Lanka

January 3, 2008

Sir:

The word that is going around is that* “Enough is Enough. It is now clear to everyone that all these terrorist activities are being planned and executed by the LTTE Tamil Tiger terrorists living in lodges in Colombo. Therefore, the Sri Lanka Government should take immediate actions to inspect all these lodges and arrest suspected personnel.”*

* *Last June when 301 Tamils of a population of 125,036 Tamils in Colombo were removed from lodgings and bussed North, as it had been suspected for months that these lodgings were cocoons for Tamil Tiger bomber-assassins, there was a big hue and cry by Human Rights advocates, local and foreign, saying that it was ‘ethnic cleansing’. They obviously did not have an inkling of what ‘ethnic cleansing’ was all about. Perhaps they may want to be honest with themselves and revisit incidents of ‘ethnic cleansing’ around the world before labeling the Sri Lankan government’s alleged act of ‘ethnic cleansing’ with the 301 Tamils sent north.

Here is what ‘ethnic cleansing’ is all about, and not the 301 Tamils bussed north which the bleeding-hearts Human Rights activists would like us to believe.

In 1990 when the Tamil Tigers wanted 100,000 Muslims in the North of Sri Lanka to get out within 24 hours, leaving their belongings and treasured valuables at the nearest mosque, that was a text book example of ‘ethnic cleansing’ /par excellance./ Prabhakaran made Idi Amin look like an angel as Amin had a heart to give the Asians in Uganda three months to leave the country and not 24 hours, the deadline being November 9^th , 1972. And that was “ethnic cleansing”. When in August 1977, the 400 Sinhalese undergraduates and lecturers were stoned and chased out from the Jaffna campus and the peninsula itself, that was ‘ethnic cleansing’. I hope these bleeding-heart human rights activists now got a real understanding of what ‘ethnic cleansing’ is all about.

With that pressure from busy-bodies of Human Rights groups, Sir, your government let loose the 301 Tamils and they took a bee-line back to the Colombo lodgings, terrorists and all.

But what is painful is that these lodgings have been recognized to be the spawning grounds for the likes of, Minister Douglas Devananda’s attempted suicide bomber who killed herself and one other and injured two others critically. Then the Nugegoda market place bombing which killed 19 and injured 37, and now the Slave Island bombing which has killed four and injured 28.

So these bleeding-heart human rights advocates won the day with a shot in the arm, when the Supreme Court brought down an interim order in response to a petition filed by the Centre for Policy to stop removing these Tamils from suspected bomb making lodgings. But, then, there hasn’t been one single voice of reason screaming that there have been human rights violations by the Tamil Tigers abusing the right to life by snuffing out the breaths of the unfortunate innocent victims who were killed by these terrorists assassins by detonating their planted bombs. The question that goes begging is who has the democratic rights –is it the Tamil Tiger terrorists who are allowed to go about killing with impunity or is it the innocent civilians who have a right to life, and are killed by these Tamil terrorists for no reason at all? That is indeed the million dollar question.

Another question that needs to be answered is, was the rounding up of Colombo’s transient lodgers who were all Tamils from the North, to be checked out by the law enforcing authorities a fair price to pay, because some among them would, very likely go out and plant a bomb to kill scores of innocent civilians. Is the government abdicating its responsibility to guard the right to life of its subjects by giving into these bleeding-heart human rights activists with knee-jerk reactions?

But what is needed here is to keep the eye on the ball. The fact is that Sri Lanka is at war, and we’ve got to make sure that we do not harbour Tamil Tigers, mousing-up with tripping wires, detonators, exploding chemicals, gunny bags filled with millions of lead pellets and suicide body packs, and later for them to go out and plant the assembled bombs to kill hundreds of people.

If there was one suicide bomber among the 301 Tamils bussed back to the north only to be kept away from Colombo, then it would have been a substantial winning for the government even though having been lambasted by Human Rights critics, as the Devananda, Nugegoda and Slave Island bombings would have never happened. At that point Sri Lanka could have told these bleeding-heart human rights activists, to go fly a kite as the government believes that safeguarding the right to life of her subjects overrides sending back the Tamils to where they came for the security of her peoples.

Let them know that protecting human rights is no monopoly of theirs as it also happens to be Sri Lanka’s business, and that is protecting the right to life of those that the Tamil Tigers want to snuff out. Especially when Prabhakaran expects his Tamil Tiger Colombo lodgers sent on a mission to plant a bomb on a busy street in Colombo by hook or by crook and detonate it.

Sir, your Government does have a choice. If you all are not allowed by Human Rights activists to sieve out these assassins from the private lodgings as one would use a pest controller to get rid of vermin, then for God’s sake have these underground bomb assembling lodgings closed for good. Remember, the government has a role to play in this feud. To keep Law and Order as well as guarding the right to life of its citizens, and the latter would certainly override removing the transient Tamils from these suspicious lodgings. There is no reason to hesitate. Just, do it.

Open Letter to Mr. Gotabhaya Rajapaksa,  Defence Secretary  - Flush out undesirables in Colombo

January 4, 2008

Mr. Gotabhaya Rajapaksa,

Defence Secretary,

Government of Sri Lanka

Colombo,

Sri Lanka

Dear Sir:

The intelligence wing in the forces is quite aware of the fact that the murderous LTTE personnel have moved to the capitol city to instill fear in to the general masses and to destabilize the nation. The intention is two fold, to kill innocent people expecting a public unrest and then to get the support of those TRAITORS, who with their parliamentary privileges roam from country to country ridiculing the victories of the forces and over plying insignificant incidents, and to raise their voices to declare to the World that the government must stop this on slaught immediately.

Coincidentally this blasting had the Blessing from the almighty! The photos at the scene of the incident shows the presence of God’s representatives blessing the terrorists speaks louder than the words!

As we are made to believe in the recent city bombing the bus was carrying sickly soldiers, this could be on a tip off by an informer from where ever these soldiers set off on this fatal journey.

Unfortunately, some of us are prepared to be informers to our enemy with or without knowledge, one cannot blame them even the well paid parliamentarians do it abundantly, assassination of the former Foreign Minister Rajan Kadiragamar is a case of school mates joining in the conspiracy.

So, now this time there should be no mercy, no reason to mollycoddle the venomous snake on our lap, to hell with those who cry foul, flush them out once and for all. We have seen how the suspected terrorists are subjected to various harassments by the law enforcement agencies of Western countries in order to provide a safe living environment for the general public. What is good for the Goose is good for the Gander!

Government so far has shown the courage to act firmly on things they have to do without dilly dallying, let’s hopes our forces will get a free hand to flush out these undesirables from the city without caving into external pressures.

President’s vision is very clear, first root out the obstacles on the way and then establish democratic governance in areas liberated from the clutches of the terrorists in the East and the North.

My heartfelt wish is that the New Year 2008 will usher true Peace and Harmony among all the inhabitants of our resplendent Island.

Back to Latest News on LTTE Tamil Tiger Terrorists

What is really happening in Sri Lanka today is that a ‘blood thirsty racist’ group led by some misled Tamils called LTTE is terrorizing against the Govt of Sri Lanka and its people irrespective of their ethnicity with an intention of carving out a separate state. There is no conflict as such between Sinhalese and Tamil communities in Sri Lanka. In fact, the majority of the Tamil community lives in peace and harmony among the Sinhalese population through out the country apart from the Northern part of Sri Lanka. The entire Sinhalese and the Muslims population who lived in the Northern area for centuries were either killed or chased away completely by the LTTE Tamil Tiger terrorists. At the moment, not a single Sinhalese or Muslim is living in Jaffna, but, many thousands of Tamils are living in Colombo.
