Genocide of Muslims by LTTE Tamil Tigers

Here below are few major atrocities on peace loving Muslim Community in Sri Lanka

LTTE Tamil Tiger suicide bomb at the national Milad Muslim Festival injures 46 including Govt. Minister and kills 15 civilians

(Read more details in SPUR)

The death toll of the brutal terrorist attack at the national Milad Festival in Sri Lanka, has risen to 14 while 46 others including a government minister were injured.

An LTTE suicide bomber attacked the Jumma mosque at Godapitiya, in Akurassa , in the Matara district around 10.30 , this morning (Mar 10). According to the primary investigations , the suicide bomber had arrived at the place on a pushbike  and exploded himself among the Islamic devotees proceeding to the mosque in a procession.

The targeted civilians were attending to the national Milad-Un-Nabi celebration , held at the mosque. The festival marking the birthday of the Prophet Mohammed is celebrated as a national festival in Sri Lanka.

Meanwhile , hospital sources said Minister Mahinda Wijesekara who was also attending the celebration  suffered serious injuries in the explosion. The sources added that another 46 people with injuries were admitted to the government hospital Matara and elsewhere. Five other  government ministers; AHM Fowzie, Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena, Pandu Bandaranaike Chandrasiri Gajadeera , and Minister Amir Ali had  narrow escapes. Among the deceased and injured were several local government representatives .

The LTTE is a ruthless terrorist outfit fighting for a mono ethnic separate state for Tamils in Sri Lanka since 1983. Lead by its psychopathic chief  V. Prabhakaran, the outfit has slaughtered tens of thousands of innocent civilians during its three decades of terror campaign against Sri Lankan citizens.

The LTTE  has been engaged in a systematic and brutal ethnic cleansing campaign  against Muslims and Sinhalese living in the North and Eastern Provinces in its fanatical attempt create an ethnically pure Tamil State in the Island nation.

The Sri Lanka government said that it condemns in the strongest possible terms the LTTE suicide bomb attack killing ten people and injuring scores of others including Mahinda Wijesekera , the telecommunication minister of Sri Lanka at a Muslim festival of Prophet Mohamed’s birthday at a procession of a mosque.

“The attack reaffirms the fact that the LTTE is not only a ruthless terrorist outfit but also one which has no regard or respect for religion. This is an attack that deliberately targeted the Muslim Community and one that has sought to sow ethnic and religious disharmony”, the statement said.

1.4 million Muslims live in Sri Lanka representing 7.5 % of the islands´19 million inhabitants. Islam is the nations third largest religion after Buddhism (over 13 million faithful, 69% of the population) and Hinduism (circa 9 million). “This reminds us of the LTTE’s massacre of more than 200 Muslims at worship in three Mosques at Kaththankudy and Eravur in the East, in August 1990, in its war of terrorism”, the government’s statement added.

The statement further said, selecting of a Muslim shrine and a day sacred to Muslims, both in Sri Lanka and the world over, to carry out this attack, underscores the hatred the LTTE has towards the Muslim population of Sri Lanka, who have suffered considerably under its policies of ethnic cleansing both in the North and East of Sri Lanka. The following is the full text of the statement:

“The Government condemns in the strongest possible terms the LTTE suicide bomb attack on the Milad-un-Nabi Muslim Festival to mark the birthday of Holy Prophet Mohammed, at Godapitiya, Akuressa, Matara this morning around 10.a.m. in which 10 persons were killed and many others injured, including a Government minister. “The Government notes with utmost contempt this wanton act of terrorism and observes that the attack bears the unmistakable signature of the LTTE. The attack reaffirms the fact that the LTTE is not only a ruthless terrorist outfit but also one which has no regard or respect for religion. This is an attack that deliberately targeted the Muslim Community and one that has sought to sow ethnic and religious disharmony. “Selecting of a Muslim shrine and a day sacred to Muslims, both in Sri Lanka and the world over, to carry out this attack, underscores the hatred the LTTE has towards the Muslim population of Sri Lanka, who have suffered considerably under its policies of ethnic cleansing both in the North and East of Sri Lanka. This reminds us of the LTTE’s massacre of more than 200 Muslims at worship in three Mosques at Kaththankudy and Eravur in the East, in August 1990, in its war of terrorism. “The Government is of the view that this is another desperate act that the LTTE terrorists, now on their last legs, have perpetrated to divert the attention from the humanitarian mission of the Security Forces, to flush them out from their last remaining foothold in the Wanni. “The Government remains unwaveringly committed to rid the country of the terrorist menace and bring about peace. This attack will only serve to strengthen the resolve of the Government and the security forces in this regard. “The Government urges all citizens to remain calm and unprovoked, and support the Security Forces and Police by exercising utmost vigilance as the LTTE, facing imminent annihilation, could very well resort to other similar acts of desperation. “The Government offers its condolences to the families of victims of this brutal attack and wishes speedy recovery of the injured.” .

LTTE's Muttur Massacre on 03 August 2006

Killing of Muslims

In 1990 also, LTTE butchered 103 Muslim prayers including over 25 small children at Kattankudy Mosque (see details)

LTTE Tamil Tiger Terrorists in Sri Lanka has again made mother Lanka weep for her beloved children. A crime blended with terrorism and racism has been committed again by the LTTE terrorists in the eastern region of the country. All peace loving citizen of the country are deeply shocked and anguished over the large number of deaths of their fellow brethren in the East.

Today (03 August 2006) is another sad day in the history of the country when the historical relationships that existed over thousands of years between the Tamil and the Muslim communities were blotched by a series of gory incidents. Today is thus one of those "shameful days" in the annals of our history when three schools in Muttur which have now been converted to refugee centers were bombarded with heavy Artillery fire. The intention of the LTTE very clearly was to cause the maximum damage to a hapless innocent Muslim community who were gathered in large numbers at these refugee centers.

16 years ago, on 3 August 1990, LTTE Tamil Tiger Terrorists, the so called "Saviors" of the Tamil community in the world, butchered 103 innocent Muslims whilst they were praying in the grand Mosque of Kattankudiy in Batticaloa. It is ironic that exactly after 16 years, the same terrorist group of people hiding behind the veil of "human rights" showed the extent to which they have now been civilized when they perpetrated yet another heinous crime on the 3rd of August 2006 at Muttur. This time they showed the world community their true spirit and nature; that they are nothing but absolute barbarians and megalomaniacs; and yet they brand themselves as "liberation fighters".

For a long time the LTTE is implementing an ethnic cleansing program in the country's North and the East. Akkaraipattu, Kalmunai, Samanthurae, Kaththankudy and Kalawanchikudy Muslims hoisted white flags , shut down business to mark the 16th anniversary. Police stopped a demonstration against the LTTE for security reasons, on Thursday the 03rd of August, in Kalmunai.

Hello Mr Hakeem, Can you trust these LTTE Tamil Tiger Terrorists ? (see secret agreement). Few year ago, Sri Lanka Muslim Congress leader Rauff Hakeem with LTTE Leader Velupillai Prabhakaran.

Over 100 Muslim civilians, including women and children were slaughtered by the Tamil Tiger militants on Friday night at Pachchanoor, alleging them as members of the Muslim armed group ‘Jihad.’

According to the report, displaced families were fleeing the fighting in Muttur - the government-held town when the Tigers blocked them at Pachchanoor on Friday night and killed over a 100 "including women, youth and children."

Earlier on 04 August, Rauf Hakeem - Leader of the Sri Lanka Muslim Congress publicly raised the issue of missing more than 100 Muslims innocent civilians and alleged that they are being detained by the LTTE.

“More than 100 innocent youths were detained by LTTE while they were fleeing to safer places. The point where they were kept is still unknown. We urge LTTE to release them immediately. “Rauf Hakeem appealed for their release.

Muslim sources told that LTTE constantly claimed that they have adequate evidences for the existence of an armed Jihad group in Muttur.

According to the civilians, LTTE cadres armed with sophisticated weapons had blocked the way of the fleeing Muslim civilians as they had been moving towards Serunuwara from Muttur area.

It is now confirmed that Tiger militants detained the fleeing Muslim civilians and slaughtered them mercilessly alleging them as members of the Muslim armed group called “Jihad.”

A group of civilians who managed to escape the slaughter has reported the incident to the military officials.

An immediate search operation is now underway to search and rescue the civilian in the area.

Sri Lankan security forces have set off to the particular area to bring the corpses. It is reported that the SLMM and Red Cross are also on their way to the particular area.

Kaththankudu Muslim Mosque massacre of 175 Muslims by LTTE Tamil Tiger Terrorists

LTTE's Kattankudi Muslim Mosque Massacre (03 August 1990)

Terrorism knows no religious sanctity, nor does it care for lives of infants, children, women and clergy. This was once again proved eighteen years ago when tiger terrorists cold-bloodedly butchered 147 Muslim devotees, praying in mosques in the pre-dominantly Muslim town of Kattankudy, Batticaloa in the East.

The massacre at Kattankudy that shook the nation and drew worldwide condemnation was meticulously pre-planned and executed in secrecy by tiger terrorists who had disguised themselves as Muslim prayers and entered the Meera Jumma and Husseinia mosques when hundreds of devotees were attending Friday Isha prayers.

On 03rd August 1990, gun-carrying Tamil Tiger terrorists swooped on Muslim prayers inside the holy KATTANKUDY mosque and butchered 103 Muslim prayers including over 25 small children. The dastardly mass murder provoked condemnation from the international community.

Mosque Massacres Revisited

By Peter Cassie-Chitty

On Friday August 4, 1990 over three hundred Muslims, men and boys, were prostrate in prayer at the Meera Jumma Mosque, fifty yards from the Kandy Batticaloa Road. None of them were armed.

It was seven twenty in the evening and the town of Katankudi was lit up. The prayers went on when there was a power cut throwing the mosque into darkness.

A stones throw away from the Meera Jumma is the smaller Hussainya Mosque. There was a smaller gathering of approximately forty people here -- prostrate in prayer too. The power cuut had been effected by the large group of LTTE cadres on their murderous mission.

According to eye witnesses the raiders were dressed in battle fatigues, others in sarongs and tee shirts. They drove up in several white Hiace vans -- armed LTTE cadres.

A. I. Ismail was 55 then. M.M. Akbar was 16. Two men who survived the attack as fate disposed and told the tale. It was appalling.

The most crowded place

In Katankudi the population is denser than in any part of South Asia including Calcutta. In one and a half square kilometres live 50,000 people.

In August 1990 there had been agitation in the Eastern Province of Sri Lanka. Security was sparse and the Muslim and Sinhalese civilians living in the area were exposed to the aftermath of Black July 1983.

LTTE attacks had accounted for 14 Muslims on August 1 in Akkaraipattu. The dead men had their hands tied behind their backs with their own clothes and then shot in the occipital (back) region of the head.

Between August 2 and 3 of that year, fifteen other muslims were killed in attacks by the LTTE at Medawachchiya, Batticaloa and Majeedpuram. On August 4 they hit Katankudi.

I found the streets of Katankudi bare and all the shops closed. First impressions were that of a ghost town. Then when we reached the mosque everything changed. "This is a 'hartal'. We have closed shops to mark the ten years that our children and their mothers have suffered without the bread winners of their families. Some mothers lost very young children who had gone but to worship Allah", the trustee of the mosque, a tall, bearded middle aged man says in perfect English.

On the walls of the mosque are the marks left by machine gun fire. The floor bears the markings of the grenades that were thrown at the worshippers. We spend some time listening to the voices that are strained with emotion. Young children and women cling to the windows of the mosque and wait to tell their stories.

Losses

Katankudi's narrow side streets are crowded with screaming children at play in the hot soft sand of eastern afternoons. They are as noisy as children anywhere in the world.

In 1990 Akram was the youngest most precocious at six, Ajimeel, Jaroon and Rizwan, were 10, Asroof the only boy who was 11, Dalhan Haris, Fauser Hassan, Arip, M. Ajimal, Makeen, Kamaldeen and Imtiaz were all 12 - Anas, Faizal, and M.B.Jawad 13 - Sameeen, Jaufer, Samath, Mohammed Fauzer, Safar, M. S. M. Jaufer were all 14, Fazlan was the oldest at 15. They went to the same schools and played together. Came to the mosque and prayed together.

Each neighbourhood has its own little mosque to permit the faithful to pray as mandated by the Word -- five times a day.

Then when the public address system sounds, calling the faithful to prayer the streets empty in a few seconds. They come to the mosque and wash themselves before every prayer. On August 4, 1990 they performed the same ritual. In their innocence they knew that something was wrong for attacks had been carried out on peace loving, hard-working Muslims.

The hour was grave. Everybody looked for Divine Intervention. The LTTE were on the rampage murdering unarmed Muslim civilians. The men in Katankudi had filed into the mosques and no one was on the streets to warn of the danger that lingered.

The witnesses say that while men stood guard at the doors of the mosques latecomers were herded and shut inside. Then through the windows they were mowed down, gunfire drowning screams of "Allah - hu -Akbar". They were shot in the back, killed by men who respect nothing not even a place of worship.

The Muslims continued to be attacked despite President Premadasa's attempt to stop them by increasing the armed forces personnel in the Eastern Province.

Six days after the Katankudi massacre Armed LTTE men rounded up hundreds of civilian Muslims. Akin to genocide now.Their attempt at mass murder in Siyambalagaskanda failed when the Army turned up in numbers.

On August 18, however the LTTE launched another attack on Eravur and murdered 31 children, 27 women and 115 men. They then raided other villages unhindered and continued their reign of terror throughout the Eastern, Northern and North Central areas.

Mosques all over the country had now to be given armed protection. Then the State Minister of Muslim Religious and Cultural Affairs Mr. Aswer called on the Muslims to be calm and patriotic. God fearing and disposed to peace, the Muslims did remain calm.

Sinhala villages came under threat; hundreds were brutally murdered in Tantrimale, Weli Oya, Padhavia while the security forces chased phantoms.

The election of the People's Alliance Government in 1994 saw a lull. Calling the bluff off the LTTE President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga refused to budge in her conditions. The Security Forces now were given orders to protect the threatened villages from the LTTE.

However on September 17, 1999 the village of Gonagala was attacked and 52 people, including a number of very young children, were hacked to death in the stealth of the night.

A visit to that region was made recently by two British Journalists, veterans at covering the fate faced by children in a conflict situation. Former paramedical officer , now photo -journalist and Scotsman Martin Klejnowski - Kennedy and Madeleine Leeson of the Reuters Foundation toured Batticaloa and the Eastern province. Both had visited every battlefield except Kashmir in the last four years. Gruesome scenes are nothing novel to them. One million people were murdered in 100 days in Ruwanda and they have seen fields full of 15000 Somalians killed by Erithrean soldiers piled up in the desert sun.

But they were appalled at the brutality of the LTTE in the Meera Jumma and Hussainia Mosques and at Gonagala.

To be fair by all ethnic groups they visited Katankudi and Batticaloa where they met Tamil children whose parents had been killed by the security forces. On the last leg of the tour they met the children of Gonagala.

Kennedy and Leeson were very impressed by the professionalism and thoroughness shown by the security personnel at the check points. They came into direct contact with numbers of Tamil, Muslim and Sinhalese civilians and have seen clearly that the LTTE does not represent the Tamil people but form a micro minority of terrorists.

They lost their fathers and brothers. 2) Clinging to the windows from where the terrorists opened fire on unarmed Muslims. 3) The list of the men and boys massacred on August 4, 1990. 4) The battered walls of the mosque where machine gun-wielding Tigers committed genocide.

“Tamil Tigers”, also called “The Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam” (LTTE) declare that they are fighting the government of Sri Lanka to “liberate” the Tamils. During the past three decades of their “liberation struggle” they forcibly abducted an estimated twenty thousand children as young as ten and converted them into human bombs or cannon fodder. Tamil parents who objected to the forcible conscription of their beloved children were tortured or killed in front of their families.

Finally, after seven futile attempts at internationally facilitated peace talks and ceasefires, all of which were reneged by the LTTE, the democratically elected Sri Lankan government decided that the only way to liberate the Tamils from the clutches of the LTTE was to eradicate the oppressors. Sri Lanka learned the hard way that any “ceasefire” interval given to these abominable terrorists would be used by them to recuperate, regroup, rearm and attack without warning. Tigers, once the world’s most feared terrorists, are now confined to a few square kilometres of jungle where they have corralled innocent Tamil civilians to be used as human shields. If not for the Sri Lankan government’s concern for the safety of civilians, the LTTE would have been wiped out from the face of earth many moons ago.

Tigers make sure that those who try to escape into government declared safe zones are mercilessly killed, mostly burnt alive and the corpses are displayed as a deterrent to others who would try to escape. These photos were taken by a brave Tamil who managed to escape to a safe zone only last week.

The photographs appearing below show how the LTTE had killed and burned innocent Tamils who tried to leave the human shield to go to the government controlled area. Despite the LTTE having burned these dead bodies on a road taken by innocent Tamils to leave the area, people with their belongings on bicycles are seen moving past these burnt bodies in one photograph and in another photograph a man with his personal belongings is seen riding a motor cycle past these burnt bodies. All these people though made to witness what had happened to others who dared to defy LTTE orders were possibly moving in the direction of the government controlled area.

LTTE's objective is to carve a state out of Sri Lanka and to achieve its goal will not hesitate to endanger and sacrifice human life. It commenced with the LTTE first killing Tamil politicians and Tamil policemen loyal to Sri Lanka. Then they turned towards the rival terrorists' fractions and eliminated those who competed with them to achieve their aspiration- to reign supreme without a challenge to their authority as the sole representative of the Tamil people. Their next target was the TULF politician who taught them the rudiments of secession but preferred to keep their distinct identity and ideology.

What is really happening in Sri Lanka today is that a blood thirsty racist group led by some misled Tamils called LTTE is terrorizing against the Government of Sri Lanka and its people irrespective of their ethnicity with an intention of carving out a separate state. There is no conflict as such between Sinhalese and Tamil communities in Sri Lanka. In fact, the majority of the Tamil community lives in peace and harmony among the Sinhalese population through out the country apart from the Northern part of Sri Lanka. The entire Sinhalese and the Muslims population who lived in the Northern area for centuries were either killed or chased away completely by the LTTE Tamil Tiger terrorists. At the moment, not a single Sinhalese or Muslim is living in Jaffna, but, many thousands of Tamils are living in Colombo in peace with the other communities. Based on 2001 census, the Tamil population in Colombo district is 12.1% (see 2001 census). So, who is discriminated ? Tamils or Sinhalese? Do you need more evidence ?
