The United States' top intelligence agency, Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) says that the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) is the most dangerous and deadly extremist organization in the world. The official website of FBI in its tops story said that LTTE is far more dangerous terrorists outfit than al Queda, Hezbullah or even HAMAS. Read more...

Current Significant Issues

What is really happening in Sri Lanka today is that a blood thirsty racist group led by some misled Tamils called LTTE is terrorizing against the Government of Sri Lanka and its people irrespective of their ethnicity with an intention of carving out a separate state. There is no conflict as such between Sinhalese and Tamil communities in Sri Lanka. In fact, the majority of the Tamil community lives in peace and harmony among the Sinhalese population through out the country apart from the Northern part of Sri Lanka. The entire Sinhalese and the Muslims population who lived in the Northern area for centuries were either killed or chased away completely by the LTTE Tamil Tiger terrorists. At the moment, not a single Sinhalese or Muslim is living in Jaffna, but, many thousands of Tamils are living in Colombo in peace with the other communities. Based on 2001 census, the Tamil population in Colombo district is 12.1% (see 2001 census). So, who is discriminated ? Tamils or Sinhalese? Do you need more evidence ?

Washington Times Editorial says ......Failing that, the Obama administration should mind its own business. The Sri Lankans are winning; we should let them finish the job (Read full Editorial).
Washington Times Editorial says ......We can only imagine American satisfaction if we had al Qaeda in this position. It is unconscionable for the United States to castigate its Sri Lankan ally for prevailing in its war against terrorism. The Tamil Tigers have purposefully created the conditions for a humanitarian crisis and deserve neither amnesty nor mercy. There are ways to help resolve this standoff that will not allow the Tigers to snatch victory from the jaws of defeat, such as providing military and intelligence support for pinpoint strikes against the terrorist leadership  (Read full Editorial).
Washington Times Editorial says .... The Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam, one of the world's most violent terrorist outfits, are surrounded in northern Sri Lanka and about to be destroyed - but Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton and European self-styled peacemakers are getting in the way of victory. The meddlers should let Colombo finish off this menace. ...... Last week, Mrs. Clinton played into the hands of the terrorists by blaming the Sri Lankan government for the crisis. "The entire world is very disappointed" that they were "causing such untold suffering," she said (Read Washington Times Editorial). 13th Amendment ........

The ordinary Tamil people don’t care about 13 or 17 amendments. What the ordinary Tamils want is to get on with their day to day life, get on with their agri work in the field, chena, sea, or in the offices and live a peaceful life which they experienced before 1983. We never thought of discrimination, aspiration, grievances before 1983. It was the politicians who planted these poisonous seeds into our hearts and minds. Grievances are there not only for the Tamils but even to the poor Sinhalese people in the South. That’s common to any nationality.

“Tamil Tigers”, also called “The Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam” (LTTE) declare that they are fighting the government of Sri Lanka to “liberate” the Tamils. During the past three decades of their “liberation struggle” they forcibly abducted an estimated twenty thousand children as young as ten and converted them into human bombs or cannon fodder. Tamil parents who objected to the forcible conscription of their beloved children were tortured or killed in front of their families. Finally, after seven futile attempts at internationally facilitated peace talks and ceasefires, all of which were reneged by the LTTE, the democratically elected Sri Lankan government decided that the only way to liberate the Tamils from the clutches of the LTTE was to eradicate the oppressors. Sri Lanka learned the hard way that any “ceasefire” interval given to these abominable terrorists would be used by them to recuperate, regroup, rearm and attack without warning. Tigers, once the world’s most feared terrorists, are now confined to a few square kilometres of jungle where they have corralled innocent Tamil civilians to be used as human shields. If not for the Sri Lankan government’s concern for the safety of civilians, the LTTE would have been wiped out from the face of earth many moons ago. Tigers make sure that those who try to escape into government declared safe zones are mercilessly killed, mostly burnt alive and the corpses are displayed as a deterrent to others who would try to escape. These photos were taken by a brave Tamil who managed to escape to a safe zone only last week (Read full report).

The monies that have been collected by TD for LTTE war ....

The monies that have been collected by Tamil Diaspora for LTTE war chest runs into billion of dollars during the past three decades. But, where are we now? What have Tamils achieved over the years? Tamils have earned nothing but humiliation and misery. There times I am ashamed to call myself a Tamil to avoid humiliation as Tamils are branded as a set of terrorists.

Indian intervention in Sri Lankan internal affairs

The Tamil Diaspora should at least realize now .....

The Tamil Diaspora should at least realize now that LTTE’s days are numbered and any funds collected for LTTE will benefit only Pirapaharan and his top LTTE hierarchy. Pirapaharan educated his son with your money. His wife is running around the world seeking a safe haven with your money. Pirapaharan built couple of luxurious bunkers with all the modern facility with your money. It is therefore still not too late to stop financing the dying LTTE; stop organizing protest marches, demos and rallies as the Sri Lankan government is not going to stop now until LTTE who also brought misery to the Tamils is completely defeated.

"Tamil Hitler - Made in India" Prabhakaran, who killed Indian Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi, is now seeking help from India.

I reminisce with joy and happiness the days before 1983 - I reminisce with joy and happiness the days before 1983 when LTTE killed 13 soldiers in Jaffna and provoked the Sinhalese in the South to retaliate. We were living with Sinhalese, Muslims, Burghers, Malays like brothers and sisters and that harmony was shattered. We all were one family of one mother Lanka. But unfortunately, LTTE brought us down to ghettos and taught us to hate Sinhalese people. What have we achieved over the last three decades? We have lost our cream of Tamil political leadership sparing only a few like Ananda Sangaree. LTTE killed our educated Tamil politicians; LTTE killed our intellectuals like Dr. Neelan Thiruchelvam, Kethiswera Loganathan, Sam Thambimittu and many others including many Tamil politicians at parliamentary level to village council level. The many youth both men and women sacrificed their lives in this unwanted terrorist war launched by LTTE and ably supported by TD creating a big vacuum in the Tamil population in Sri Lanka. The Tamil minority, once the next biggest ethnic group to Sinhalese has dropped down to third place by Muslims overtaking in terms population. Who is responsible for this catastrophe? We the Tamil Diaspora and LTTE should bear the full responsibility.

Tamil Tiger Terror Machine Forcibly Holding Civilians in the Vanni as a Human Shield

LTTE Tamil Tiger Terrorists are using 'civilians as shields', despite constant urges made by the Sri Lanka Government for the release of thousands stranded in its clutches".

Those who are expressing concern about the security of civilians in the Wanni have stopped short of calling for action against the LTTE, which is using people as a "Human Shield" in Kilinochchi and Mulaitivu. The Sri Lankan government has made arrangements to accommodate civilians to be evicted from the theatre of war, as it successfully did in the Eastern Province. If the LTTE lets go of civilians, the question of their security won’t arise. Therefore, it may be argued that anyone who laments about the plight of civilians without faulting the LTTE or pressuring it to release people in its clutches is, either wittingly or unwittingly, helping further the LTTE’s cause.

These two officers were keen and had helped the people of KKS whose livelihood depended on the cement industry. These two officers were Sinhala (Island 26, August 2008).

British Foreign Secretary Davis Miliband's Grave concerns of human lives ....... The secret behind the ‘grave concerns of human lives’ of these superpowers are very clear. World politics and arms trade are closely linked. Arms manufacture and dealing is a highly profitable global business. It is estimated that yearly, over 1 trillion dollars are spent on military expenditures worldwide. The United States is the top supplier of weapons to the developing world, accounting for around 36% of worldwide weapons sales, followed by Britain and Germany. Western Arms Manufacturers needs battlefields to sell their Arms. An estimated 500,000 individuals die in small arms-conflicts every year, approximately one death per minute. Are these people concerned for the loss of innocent lives or their loss of business? The Washington Times Editorial http://washingtontimes.com/news/2009/apr/26/tigers-at-bay/ (Sunday, 26 April 2009) should be an eye-opener to those masters who still believe that there is something extraordinary under their blue-eyes and white skin.

Let's carry the important message given by Ven Rathana thero to all donor countries - Ven Rathana thero used the golden opportunity tactfully to directly address the representatives of all the donor countries and international lending agencies to expose the LTTE. Now, it is the responsibility of all patriots to carry the initial message given by Ven Rathana thero to all donor countries, by explaining in details the danger of this so-called secretive Joint Mechanism (SPUR Media Release)

Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE)

Also known as
The Tamil Tigers, the Eellalan Force, the Ellalan Force, the Tiger Movement, the Sangilian Force, the Air Tigers, the Black Tigers (Karum Puligal), the Sea Tigers, the Tiger Organization Security Intelligence Service (TOSIS), the Women's Combat Force of Liberation Tigers (WCFLT)

Description
The Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) is a Sri Lankan-based organization which advocates the creation of an independent homeland in the north and northeastern part of Sri Lanka which it has called "Tamil Eelam". Its war against the government of Sri Lanka has been fought on three fronts: a political campaign, guerrilla warfare, and a terrorist campaign. The LTTE is committed to using a variety of terror tactics in order to achieve its objectives, including attacking political, economic, religious and cultural targets, as well as targeting civilians. The LTTE's campaign has included plans to create Tamil-only northern and eastern provinces, and to this end it has aggressively expelled non-Tamils from these regions. The LTTE also endeavours to eliminate moderate Tamils and other Tamil militant groups that compete with it for influence and power within the Sri Lankan Tamil community.

World Tamil Movement

Description
The World Tamil Movement, created in 1986, is the leading front organization for the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) in Canada. The various offices of the WTM in Canada transfer funds to bank accounts in Sri Lanka meant for the LTTE. The leadership of the WTM acts at the direction of leaders of the LTTE. WTM representatives canvas areas in Canada with large Tamil populations demanding large donations on behalf of the LTTE. Refusals to contribute often lead to threats and intimidation.

APRC Proposals ....... The Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna has already warned the government that it would face dire consequences, at the forthcoming budget, if it backs the APRC proposals for a Federal State. JHU and MEP representatives of the APRC have publicly denounced the Chairman for his efforts to undermine the mandate received at the last presidential election for a unitary state. The persistent attempt by the Chairman of the APRC to sell a set of proposals based on the very same report of the expert panel, rejected by the main political parties (SLFP.JVP, JHU, MEP etc) who were instrumental when bringing the present regime into power, could drag the ruling circles into a difficult situation unless remedial action is taken in time.

Open Warrant Issued to Arrest Prabhakaran

High Court judge Sarath Ambepitiya issued an open warrant through the CID to arrest Prabhakaran and three others who were absconding. He said the LTTE leader was guilty on 51 counts and each count carried 20 years in jail making a total of 1020 years. But for practical purposes the Judge said he was imposing the sentence only on the first ten counts making a total of 200 years in jail.

Where is the Law and Order in United Kingdom ?

The pineal begins for the hostage rescue mission; over 3000 rescued - Sri Lanka soldiers have rescued over 3300 civilians held at hostage by the LTTE terrorists by this evening (May 14) reveal defense forces. According to the sources , the rescue mission is underway with thousand more civilians seeking refuge with the soldiers in the Vellaimulliwaikkal area even at the time of filing this report. Troops of 58 Division since last morning started maneuvering southwards along the coast on the Eastern border of the newly declared civilian safety Zone, and have been able to eliminate LTTE strongholds up to the Farah III shipwreck , located on the Kariamulliwaikkal coast. According to the sources, the shipwreck has been the main costal stronghold of the terrorists, on which their heavy machine guns were placed. The soldiers had to encounter stiff resistance from the terrorist manning the shipwreck when they posed the open beachhead this morning. Infantrymen of 11th Sri Lanka light infantry and 12 Gajaba Regiment upon reaching the location have attacked and destroyed the dinghy boats on which the terrorists had attempted to escape (Full report and photos in Sri Lanka Defence Ministry).

BBC parrots Tiger propaganda without checking - by H. L. D. Mahindapala - Tamil protesters holding placards take part in a demonstration outside the Houses of Parliament in London, Wednesday, April 29, 2009. Believe it or not, BBC has a set new standard in reporting stories which they admit cannot be confirmed, verified or reveal from where and when they originated.  The hourly news bulletins of Monday 11, 2009 ran pictures of a house burning along with the wreckage of bus in No Fire Zone which it’s Colombo-based reporter Damian Grammaticus said was sent by a "Tamil pressure group purported to be within the (No Fire) zone and claims to be the aftermath of shelling on Sunday (May 10, 2009). " (See bbc.com/news (video) — Monday May 11, 2009). Then he makes the next stunning statement: "It is impossible to confirm where or when it was taken." So when a news agency runs pictures sent by the Tamil Tiger propagandists, with the reporter saying that "it is impossible to confirm where or when it was taken" what does it say of the news agency running it? Irresponsible journalism? Propagandists for Tamil Tigers? Just plain naïve idiots? Or all three? (Full report in Island).

LTTE's shocking use of banned weaponry - White phosphorus targeting fleeing hostages - Use of civilians as Weapon of Mass Destruction (WMD) - LTTE terrorists are preparing the worst slaughter of civilians ever witnessed by the civilized world in modern times with the systematic use of hostages as a weapon of mass destruction, said defence observers commenting on the unfolding human tragedy at Mullivaikkal. Substantial evidence has surfaced from the battlefront that LTTE terrorists are using white phosphorous as a weapon in reprehensible attacks at both advancing security forces and hostages fleeing from the LTTE, the observer said. What we are witnessing is outrageous and the worst exhibition of treachery against the very people it claimed to 'represent' over the years. Systematically the LTTE, an internationally banned terrorist outfit, has drawn the lines for the mass execution of Tamil civilians while crying out for a third party intervention to provide an escape route and sanctuary for the LTTE leader Prabhakaran and his band of terrorists (Full report and photos in Sri Lanka Defence Ministry).

Relief Villages: Another Sri Lankan lesson - Sri Lanka has already taught number of golden lessons to the world. These lessons, she learnt through enormous hardships, would certainly help nations like her who are being plagued with terrorism to end their sufferings. She has shown to the world, how to defeat a terrorist outfit that takes cover from a human shield. She unveiled how terrorist outfits like LTTE are engineer human sufferings to mislead the very same organizations that are supposed to work against human rights violations. Not only Sri Lanka has been able to defeat the terror outfit that was once considered impregnable, but also she has been able to liberate over 200,000 people from terror clutches, so far. The thing that the country can be most proud of is the way those civilians are being looked after (Full report in Sri Lanka Defence Ministry).

Army maneuvers further southwards along the coast; Over 1000 civilians rescued - Sri Lanka Army 53 and 58 Division are now sweeping around the new civilians safety zone, reveal latest reports from the battlefront. With this manoeuvre, troops have been able to rescue about 1000 civilians held hostage by the terrorists in the Vellamullivaikkal area, the sources added. According to the sources, over 1000 civilians have been able to seek refuge with the soldiers of Army 59 Division manning the southern frontage by this afternoon (May 14). Also, another 200-250 civilians have been received by troops of 58 and 53 Divisions. Reports further say that the infantrymen of 11 Sri Lanka Light Infantry have spearhead the advance along the north-eastern coast and established their positions few hundred meters short of the Farah III shipwreck. Meanwhile, Sri Lanka Navy is currently assisting the ICRC mission of rescuing civilians via sea route. According to the sources, the ship Oriental Princess has taken 500 MT of essential items to Mullaittivu and the MV Green Ocean II is currently waiting at the Mullaittivu coast to receive patients from the LTTE held areas (Full report in Sri Lanka Defence Ministry).

Systematically the LTTE, an internationally banned terrorist outfit, has drawn the lines for the mass execution of Tamil civilians while crying out for a third party intervention to provide an escape route and sanctuary for the LTTE leader Prabhakaran and his band of terrorists (full report in Sri Lanka Defence Ministry).

Cries of US and its allies - S. Akurugoda - While killing hundreds of civilians in Afghanistan and in Iraq, cries of the United States and its allies on Sri Lanka (who has “Zero Civilian Death Policy” when fighting terrorism) remind us the story of a tricking thief who cried “thief, thief catch a thief”, just to avert the attention and as a part of a ploy set to escape from the crowd around him. As per the media reports, US is planning to rush hundreds of millions of dollars to Pakistan help fight the Taliban and al-Qaida. Last week, US-led air strikes killed hundreds of Afghans, including women and children and destroyed houses. All we hear is that the Pentagon launched a joint investigation into what appeared to be one of the heaviest civilian death tolls at the hands of coalition forces. That is the end of the story (Full report in Sri Media Centre for National Security).

OPEN LETTER TO DAVID MILIBAND -WHAT IS NEXT MILIBAND? Posted on May 13th, 2009 By Stanley Perera from Melbourne British High Commissioner, Colombo. Please deliver this letter to David Miliband. My dear Miliband, There is a saying that “a dog may bark but the mountain does not come down”. It appears to me that you are a shameless white man who does not know when to stop. An attorney-at-Law by profession S.L.Gunsekekera called you a born idiot while some others called you all different names. I called you a spineless L plater Miliband. Now I do not hesitate to call you a corrupt backhander politician hard up for LTTE terrorist’s blood money. First you joined Hillary to call for a cease fire in Sri Lanka. That was yours and Hillary’s first public statement. Both of you were very nervous and began to stammer due to the lack of experience and maturity in life and the job. You had no guts to stand up alone and you called Hillary to hold your hand. Thereafter you thought you were a hero and tried your next heroic action. This time you got hold of two other jokers to support you. The Swedish joker got the kick in the pants even before he got on the plane. French bully Couchner and you managed to get a visa to give a public lecture to Sri Lanka Government. Boy Miliband you two jokers got well and truly enough tongue lashing from the Rajapakse brothers. You went back to your pommyland like a dog with his tail hiding between the legs (Full report in LankaWeb).

LTTE counter-attack crushed, MBRL captured; Army on threshold of FINAL victory - The army Tuesday night thwarted what would have been one of the last LTTE counter attacks on troops now positioned south of the no firing zone. In an attempt to drive out the 59 Division troops who had crossed the Waduvakkal Bridge to reach the southern edge of the no firing zone earlier on the day, the LTTE had launched a two-pronged assault, a senior army official told The Island. According to him as four explosives-laden LTTE craft approached the newly liberated area, a sizeable group of terrorists who had come in two large boats landed a little distance away from the northern-most positions held by the 59 Division. "We blew up three of their suicide craft," he said. Troops held their positions. The LTTE assault lasted about four hours. Military spokesman Brigadier Udaya Nanayakkara told The Island that the army had caused considerable damage to the LTTE during Tuesday’s engagement. The offensive undertaken by the 59 Division was the first since it faced an LTTE counter attack mounted in the first week of February. Recently Army Chief Lt. Gen. Sarath Fonseka brought Brigadier Prasanna Silva to command the Division credited with the liberation of the Mullaitivu town in January (Full report in Island).

Cricket to build bridges between North and South (Economic Affairs Unit - Government Peace Secretariat - As part of its continuing efforts to build a sustainable peace, the Government with the coordination of the Peace Secretariat has initiated a number of innovative programmes to build 'Peace Through Sports'. The goal is to promote integration and unity under the banner of education and sport, recognizing that sport is a basis for connectivity between the youth of the North and South. The initial programmes have focused on cricket, and plans are underway to involve other sports. The Secretary General of the Peace Secretariat has said that more sports must enter the Jaffna peninsular such as Basketball, Badminton, Track and Field. He also indicated that more facilities need to be provided for the youth of Jaffna, so that interaction with the youth in the South can take place for the attainment of sustainable peace in the country (Full report in Sri Lanka Defence Ministry).

A tale of two Tigers - Former LTTE military commander Karuna Amman was wise enough to take the tide in his affairs at the flood. After years of fighting for a megalomaniac given to fratricidal violence, finally it dawned on him that the LTTE's violent campaign was doomed to fail. He also fell from grace like the LTTE deputy leader Mahendraraja or Mahattaya. Prabhakaran is the LTTE and the LTTE Prabhakaran; no other person could emerge popular within that organisation. Mahattaya paid with his dear life and those of 257 of his loyalists for a personality clash he had with the leader. The same fate awaited Karuna and a few other Eastern Province LTTE leaders, who were summoned by Prabhakaran to the Vanni in 2004 so that they could also be eliminated. Some of them went to Prabhakaran's lair and never returned. Karuna sensing danger defected with thousands of battle hardened cadres (Full Editorial in Island).

To The New York Times - by Neville Ladduwahetty - Your report "UN Tells of Blood Bath in Sri Lanka" (May 11, 2009) states that there are an estimated 50,000 civilians...and a maximum of 500 rebel fighters". This makes it a ratio of 100:1 civilians to rebel fighters. The objective of the military is to get to the LTTE. Would they have to kill 100 cicilians to get to 1 LTTE cadre? This makes no sense militarily. Therefore, for foreign governments and agencies to accuse Sri Lanka of shelling does not make sense because there is no tactical advantage in killing civilians. The LTTE’s primary aim at this time is to halt the military offensive. Its strategy is to precipitate a humanitarian crisis, exaggerate its scope and give it maximum publicity in order to get world attention. All your reports come from LTTE sources within the conflict zone, and are not verifiable. These unverifiable reports of gore and horror are presented in the most gruesome light for maximum advantage. It is only by bringing the situation to closure as speedily as possible that relief can truly be brought to the civilians. A delay means that more civilians will die in order for the LTTE to retain the world’s attention (Island).

Resettlement, development and security in the northern providence : President appoints Task Force Mandated to report within one year : President Mahinda Rajapaksa by virtue of powers vested in him by Article 33 (f) of the Constitution of the Democratic, Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka, has appointed a 19- member Presidential Task Force for Resettlement, Development and Security in the Northern Province. It is mandated to prepare strategic plans, programs and projects to resettle internally displaced persons, rehabilitate and develop economic and social infrastructure of the Northern Province. The other activities commissioned to the Task Force are; (Full report in Sri Lanka Defence Ministry).

To The Washington Post - by Neville Ladduwahetty - Your AP report of May 11, "Hundreds Are Killed In Sri Lanka Attack" admits: "Reports of fighting are difficult to verify". Clearly, the immediate objective of the LTTE is to halt the military offensive. It is to the LTTE’s advantage to create crises, exaggerate their extent and give publicity, using their own websites, biased INGOs and media. Publicity is grist to the LTTE mill. Their charge that "hundreds" have died because of Government shelling makes no sense. If there are 50,000 civilians and a maximum of 1000 LTTE cadres, the ratio of 50 to 1 makes indiscriminate shelling militarily senseless. Desperate to halt the military operations, it would be tactically to the LTTE’s advantage to kill "hundreds" of Tamil civilians whom they have trapped into a human shield to get the attention of the world. The LTTE will kill more civilians until they get the attention they seek and a ceasefire in order to fight another day. The longer military operations are delayed the more civilians will be killed until the LTTE achieves what they want. Therefore, the world community has to realize the stark humanitarian need to bring closure as quickly as possible (Island).

TAMIL TIGERS IN LONDON ATTACK KINGSBURY BUDDHIST CENTER AND SMASHUP WINDOWS - By Walter Jayawardhana - Suspected members of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) in London during the small hours of May 13 attacked Kingsbury Sri Saddhatissa International Buddhist Center in London and smashed up seven windows. Venerable Wanduramba kassapa , an eywitness at the crime scene said , “About seven males used half pieces of bricks one of them carried to the temple premises in a sack to smash up the down stairs and upstairs window panes using them as missiles.” Venerable Kassapa said this is the eighth attack on the temple by London’s LTTE members. Venerable Kassapa said through the CCTV cameras he first saw two young men coming near the temple. It was 3.15 in the morning. One of them went to the park and probably used a cell phone. Then about five others came and joined them. Venerable Kassapa suspecting something foul pushed the panic alarm connected to the police. But all of a sudden they started attacking the window panes of the building using half pieces of bricks as missiles. But after four minutes later when the police arrived all attackers, had disappeared and pieces of glass and 15 half pieces of red bricks were strewn all over the place. The same gang is suspected to have removed one of the CCTV cameras few days ago. The Metropolitan Police is investigating. Smashing up windows is the newest violent form of protest practiced by the LTTE. During the last few weeks LTTE members smashed up windows of the Chinese embassy, and the High Commission offices of India and Sri Lanka. (eom).

Sauce for Taliban goose should be sauce for LTTE gander! - Reading CNN News on my internet this afternoon my eye struck two items of relevance to us. The first was a news item about the change of command of the US forces in Afghanistan, where the departing commander Gen. McKiernan had said that "while the Taliban and other terrorist groups offer only lies and fear, our continued efforts promote freedom and hope". "Other terrorist groups" would surely include groups like the LTTE, widely acclaimed as one of the most brutal terrorist outfits in the whole world though (at least, as yet) not an imminent threat to American interests, except as an innovator of new terrorist technology. Immediately after reading this report, a video presentation by CNN correspondent Richard Roth under the title ‘UN helpless in Sri Lanka’ caught my attention. In his presentation Roth was bewailing the fact that the UN is helpless to prevent civilian deaths in SL’s war against the LTTE due to the lack of support from the Russians, Chinese and the Vietnamese, well knowing that the Tamil civilians are being forcibly kept by the LTTE as a human shield to prevent their capture. The international media, the UN and the western powers shout themselves hoarse about the need to wipe out the Taliban adopt a different yardstick for the LTTE, whose contribution to world terrorism is too well known to bear repetition here. The LTTE, like the Taliban and other terrorist groups offer "only lies and fear" while the efforts of the Sri Lankan government to bring them to their heels promotes freedom and hope! (Island).

LTTE terror propaganda leads to false story on Los Angeles Times - Wick Gankanda - Dear Mr. Russ Stanton, Editor of Los Angeles Times: Your story ‘47 people killed in new shelling in Sri Lanka’ on May 12, 2009 was generated by the LTTE global misinformation machine to slow or stop anti-terror operations against them. They are forcing the medical officers to lie to generate international outrage. We hope you will use better judgment in the future before buying into such outrageous fables. Such fraud committed by the LTTE terrorists and propagated by the media in the past 25 years led to their success internationally as modern terrorist organization and in turn led to the killing of thousands of civilians. FYI: If these Western powers did have genuine humanitarian concerns, why would Britain, France, Canada, US and EU/ G8 let the LTTE terrorists collect funds in their countries, run operations, purchase massive amounts of deadly weapons and kill thousands of civilians for the past 30 years, right under their watch? Think about it. Even now they are not doing anything substantial to stop the LTTE or its future criminal activities. The Tamil Tiger terrorists have this kind of fire power and capabilities thanks to the support of the international community, where blood-money can buy almost an endless amount of weapons and politicians. That is a fact that all these concerned nations can never deny (Full report in LankaWeb).

British Speaker says LTTE demo a hijacking of Parliament - Walter JAYAWARDHANA - The Speaker of the British House of Commons Michael Martin charged that the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) demonstration on Monday hijacked the British Parliament obstructing duties of elected members. In an obvious reference made to filthy unsanitary conditions created by the week long demonstration by the Tigers in the Parliamentary Square, the Speaker said to hijack an important part of this city with hunger strikers, tents and food stalls, but no toilet facilities, is not the proper way to conduct a demonstration. Charging the LTTE demonstration violated the democratic rights of the others, Speaker Martin said: “Many of us were involved in demonstrations before we came into the House, because demonstrating is part of a democracy, but we would have those demonstrations and then leave. No one has ever expected a demonstration to hijack Parliament Square and the roads, and thereby stop others performing their democratic duties”. Many members of the House of Commons were reportedly outraged by the Tiger demonstration that turned into a mob. Sir Patrick Cormack (South Staffordshire) Conservative Party member even suggested stricter methods against the demonstrators. Simon Hughes, Liberal Democratic Member (North Southwark and Bermondsey) argued the demonstration was lawful. He said; “Further to that point of order, Mr. Speaker, I do not condone people going on to the streets, but I wish to place it on record that I know for a certain fact that the demonstration in the square was applied for lawfully and granted permission for at least the last four weeks, and it will be able to continue lawfully for some weeks to come” (Full report in Daily News).

WITH A VIEW TO A KILL! - Mahinda Weerasinghe - Author of ‘Mission to Oslo’; ‘Ceasefire’ has evolved into a four letter word in Lanka! - Sinhalese Buddhist chauvinists were fast discovering that a ‘ceasefire’ was literally being forced down their throats. ‘Ceasefire’ was the invention by the ex-colonialist in order to cripple a democratically elected government and make it negotiate with the most ruthless terror organisation presently. This instrument was initiated a few weeks back, and touted around as a panacea for all the ills of the bleeding Island. As usual Sri Lankans were caught with their ‘pants down’ by the peace industry’s new ploy. Britain, France and Sweden jointly got the diplomatic ball rolling in order to initiate this ‘ceasefire’ for a covert third party. For this financer of terror in Sri Lanka has come to the conclusion that, if it was going to save face, they need a ‘ceasefire’ pretty quick. That’s how this huge diplomatic sortie was set in motion. Mr David Miliband and his French counter part Monsieur Bernard Kouchner must have had found lots of time on their hand, for they descended on Sri Lanka, before one could say ‘Jack Robinson’, to impose their version of a ‘ceasefire’. Meanwhile ‘speaking on behalf’ of the ‘global society’, UN wanted a no hold barred cease-fire, from the conquering Sri Lankan army. Naturally this was purely to safe guard the besieged civilians the UN mandarins declared (Full report in LankaWeb).

Seditious duplicity - Ranil Wickremasinghe has made a statement that India has given military assistance to decimate the LTTE. This statement comes within two days of the poll in Tamil Nadu. Wickremasinghe was not described as the 21st century fox for nothing by Anton Balasingham. He is well known for duplicitous acts even within his own party, which was one of the principal reasons for many breaking away from the party. He has no doubt made this statement at this point of time to ensure that the DMK which is the coalition partner of the Congress, which has been supportive of this government, is defeated in Tamil Nadu. This man who has been rejected by the Sri Lanka electorate no less than 18 times could not have had any other reason for making such a statement at this time. He has conveniently forgotten how he entered into an agreement (the CFA) with the LTTE secretly without showing the text to either the Executive President who is the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces or even the Service Chiefs. In recent days we have seen the huge stocks of weapons of the LTTE uncovered by the armed services and we realize how the LTTE used the CFA and the naive government of the time of which RW was PM, to prepare to establish their separate state of Eelam. Wickremesinghe is said to be visiting Brussels to meet officials of the EU —- now why would he be undertaking this visit? (Full report in Island).

Massive sea tiger suicide trawler uncovered - Karaimullivaikkal - The Security Forces have uncovered the massive sea tiger suicide trawler hitherto recovered. It was laden with 1500 kilograms of explosives. Infantrymen of 6 Gajaba Regiment (6 GR) serving under Air Mobile Brigade of 53 Division expanded its defevces marching along the A-35 Road and recovered the largest sea tiger vessel from general area Karaimullivaikkal today, 13 May. The uncovered LTTE suicide vessel is 55 feel long and has a 500 Horse Power engine, sources said. "It can carry a large number of claymores and high powered explosives. It can unleash massive destruction on impact", senior military official said (Sri Lanka Defence Ministry).

Why oust Ranil? - by Deshapriya Rajapaksha, Colombo - If UNPers do not protest against what Ranil is doinbg and approves of his anti-national and pro-LTTE acts, why do they try to oust him from the leadership?Do they think that Ranil’s face is the reason for the series of defeats the party had to face? No, the reason is the attitude of the PRESENT UNP – Ranil and others. They cannot win by talking about what DS, Dudley, JR or DBJ did because those leaders never were anti-national (Island).

Troops foil major LTTE attack - The 59 Division troops who crossed the Waddawakkal causeway in the North of Mullaitvu reaching the south of the No Fire Zone, on Tuesday night foiled a major LTTE sea and ground attack to recapture the newly liberated areas destroying a number of Tiger suicide boats and killing scores of Tiger cadres, military officials said yesterday. The fighting broke out on Tuesday around 9.30 p.m as 59 Division troops were consolidating their positions along the earth bund they captured after crossing the lagoon in Waddawakkal. “Initially there were huge Tiger suicide boats fitted with high powered engines and two of them rammed into the bunkers held by the troops in the ground. The engines of these suicide boats were so powerful that they can reach the bunkers in the ground once they landed in the beach,” the official added. Another suicide boat that reached the shore after the initial attack was damaged by the troops preventing it reaching the shore. Amid the seaborne attack, more than 100 to 150 Tiger cadres attempted to breach the newly captured earth bund South of the safe zone but that attempt was also foiled by troops killing scores of Tigers. “Fierce fighting continued till 1 am on Wednesday as the LTTE deployed some of their suicide cadres to breach the Security Forces’ defences,” the senior official added. “The LTTE tried to cut off the troops who had crossed Waddawakkal bridge by launching this type of sea and ground attack,” the official added (Daily News).

TWO SRI LANKAN TAMILS WHO FLED ARE BROUGHT BACK TO LONDON FROM SRI LANKA AND GIVEN LIFE SENTENCES FOR MURDER AT OLD BAILEY - By Walter Jayawardhana - Two Sri Lanka Tamil men who fled the country five years ago to escape justice for the killing of a East Ham man have been jailed at the Old Bailey today thanks to close co-operation between the Metropolitan Police and Sri Lankan authorities, the Metropolitan Police of London said. Sivajodi Anantharaja, 41 years, of no fixed address, was given a life sentence with a recommendation he serve a minimum of 24 years for the murder of 26-year-old Maheswaran Kaneshan and attempted murder of another man. Sivapragasam Rajeskanna, 36 years, of no fixed address, was given a life sentence with a minimum tariff of 14 years for murder. Both were unanimously found guilty yesterday (Tuesday 12 May) by an Old Bailey jury. Police were called just after midnight on January 12, 2004, to Heigham Road, East Ham, to reports of an injured man. LAS attended and Mr Kaneshan, of Heigham Rd, East Ham, was taken to hospital where he died three days later of head injuries. The victim had been living in the UK after applying for political asylum due to the troubles in Sri Lanka. He was single with family back in Sri Lanka and worked a variety of jobs in the UK, mainly as a cashier in petrol stations and convenience stores, to send money back home. He had been a fisherman back in Sri Lanka. Mr Kaneshan was assaulted by a group of six to eight men, armed with hammers and sticks, who then fled the scene in two vehicles. Police recovered a cricket bat, metal bar and hammer from the area. Mr Kaneshan was the innocent victim of gang violence. A feud between two rival gangs had resulted in an attempted murder in October 2003 in East Ham High Street of a 25-year-old Sri Lankan man who suffered severe head injuries. The suspects attended Heigham Road on the night of the murder looking for rival gang members. It is believed they targeted Mr Kaneshan as they mistakenly thought he was a member of the gang. In 2004 Sivalingam Sivakuma, aged 31, a businessman of no fixed address, was convicted of the murder and sentenced to life imprisonment with a recommendation he serve a minimum of 17 years. But Anantharaja and Rajeskanna fled the country and returned to Sri Lanka on the day the victim died in hospital. They remained at large for two years until Rajeskanna was arrested after the Metropolitan Police obtained warrants and forwarded them to Sri Lanka. Rajeskanna was found in a village north of Columbo being occupied by members of the LTTE (Tamil Tigers) and despite considerable opposition the Sri Lankan police service was able to make the arrest. In November 2007, Anantharaja contacted the Metropolitan Police and stated he wished to surrender but would only hand himself in due to the troubles in Sri Lanka. A detective was sent to Sri Lanka to assist the local authorities in locating and arresting him. The officer was present throughout lengthy extradition proceedings until Anantharaja and Rajeskanna eventually voluntarily agreed to return to the UK. Three Sri Lankan police officers travelled with Anantharaja and Rajeskanna to London where they were met by the investigating team and arrested at Heathrow. DCI Clive Driscoll, who led the investigation, said: "This shows the commitment of the Met when dealing with gang-related violence on the streets of London - we will pursue suspects to wherever they flee and seek the assistance of the local police service to enable us to bring those suspects to the UK to stand trial. I cannot thank the Sri Lankan authorities enough for the assistance they have given to this investigation. Despite dealing with their own serious problems, the authorities provided a great deal of help and used their resources to assist the UK." (EOM).

"The Arsenal of Democracy" - By: Manisha Fernando - The arsenal of democracy is one of the 30 fireside chats broadcast on radio by US President F. D. Roosevelt, during WW II, the time when Nazi Germany had invaded and occupied most of Europe and was on the brink of invading Britain. Roosevelt referred to Detroit, a city in USA as the great arsenal of democracy because this was the place where most of the armaments were produced for WW II. The main objective of the chats aired on radio was to call on his people to "arm and support" to defeat the totalitarian regime and forces. The Axis of Powers at that time were called the 'totalitarian regimes'. Roosevelt's speech was not without reason; it was addressed to the people of the US and the world to end their complacency. To quote him in one instance, he said "Some of us like to believe that even if Great Britain falls, we are still safe, because of the broad expanse of the Atlantic and the Pacific," unquote. He highlighted that modern technology and capabilities have reduced the distances across oceans and increased the threat of invasion, and if the Axis powers control Europe and other continents, they would be in a position to command the largest military capability of the known world at will! The US finally, realized that in the wake of such impending disaster against peace and humanity, the ONLY available option was to assist Great Britain to defeat the Axis Powers across the globe (Full report in Sri Lanka Defence Ministry).

57 Div uncovers LTTE aircraft engine and accessories - Thevipurm - Troops of 11 Sri Lanka Artillery (11 SLA) serving under 57 Division uncovered LTTE aircraft engine and a few accessories in a search operation conducted in general area Thevipurm, Mullaittivu this morning, 13 May. According to the information, rotary blades, communication equipments, runaway lights and documents belonging to LTTE "air wing" were also among the items found during the search operation (Sri Lanka Defence Ministry).

More Tamil civilians reach seeking security forces protection - A total of 76 Tamil civilians held under LTTE hostage sought protection with security forces yesterday, 13 May, military sources said. According to our correspondent, civilians including 59 males and 17 females who escaped terror grip have reached the troops of 58 Division in general area Vellamullaiwaikkal. "LTTE terrorists have destroyed temporary shelter and other valuables left away by the people who escape the terror grip earlier. They (LTTE) definitely will destroy our shelter too" one of the escapees said speaking our component. "I could not guess how many, but over one hundred temporary huts were set ablaze by the terrorists"another elderly father among the escapees said. The voice of these innocent civilians provides ample evidence of the sorrow they suffered under LTTE hostage (Full report in Sri Lanka Defence Ministry).

LTTE's Multi Barrel Rocket Launcher found - Karyalaimullivaikkal - A Multi Barrel Rocket Launcher (MBRL) used by the LTTE terrorists were found by the troops of 58 Division conducting a search and clearing operation in general area Karyalaimullivaikkal this morning, 13 May, defence sources said. "This is the first time the security forces in Wanni liberation offensive uncovered a MBRL", a senior military official said speaking to defence.lk. The improvised MBRL having 6 barrels has an erective range of 8 Km, military source said. 70 x T-56 Weapons, 2 x 60mm Mortars and 06 x Light Machine Guns (LMG) were also found during the same search operation, military sources added (Sri Lanka Defence Ministry).

Defence ministry denies "hospital attack" - Sri Lanka Defence ministry vehemently denied the fabricated news item carried on some international media and pro-LTTE websites alleging the security forces shelled at a hospital inside the "Civilian Safe Zone" (CSZ), killing at least 45 civilians, according to LTTE and alleged hospital sources. While the Sri Lankan security forces maneuvering on the final phase of their mission to rescue thousands of innocent Tamil civilians forcibly held by the terrorists in CSZ, the media sympathetic to the terrorists once again have misinformed the international community with another fabricated story as did recently. "This is another deliberate attempt made by the LTTE terrorists and its propaganda machinery to tarnish the image of the security forces" military spokesperson Brigadier Udaya Nanayakkara said. Despite the pro-LTTE allegations level against security forces, the Sri Lanka Army, one of the most responsible and professional forces, firmly asserts that it would continue its rescue operation with precision and offering maximum protection to entrapped civilians in the remaining patch of land and to rid the country from a world's most ruthless terrorist outfit (Sri Lanka Defence Ministry).

Leaders who speak the truth without fear - By Lt Col (Rted) Anil Amarasekera - A democratic country like Sri Lanka, though a small sovereign nation, needs political leaders who should and must work according to the will of the people and not on dictates of foreign nations, however powerful they may be. We have at long last found a President who has the backbone not to listen to such dictates and who had the courage last week to tell Mr. David Miliband and that Mr. Bernard Kouchner, the Foreign Secretary and Foreign Minister of Britain and France respectively, “The government is not ready to enter into any kind of cease-fire with terrorists. It is my duty to protect the people of this country. I don’t need lectures from Western representatives.” Well said Mr. President, you were elected democratically by the people of this country to look after their interests and not those of foreign countries. The people of this country and more so the Security Forces will never forget how a former President Mr. J.R Jayawardena yielded to pressure exerted by India and recalled the victorious Army under the distinguished leadership of General Denzil Kobbekaduwa from the Jaffna peninsula in 1983, when they were poised to defeat the LTTE. The Indian intervention with the so called “Parripu drop” violating the air space of our nation, which India said was based on humanitarian concerns (Read full report in SPUR).

Hello Miliband ? Are you there ?

Here is another cunning Tamil politician in comfort, but pretending to be on hunger-strike, to get "Sympathy" votes of Tamils in Tamil Nadu.

Hospital not shelled in NFZ - Defence Affairs spokesman Minister Keheliya Rambukwella denied troops shelling a makeshift hospital in the No Fire Zone (NFZ) during the weekend as reported in certain media. He said that Security Forces engaged in the hostage rescue mission are not using any heavy weapons to confront LTTE cadres inside the NFZ. “Troops have nothing to do with shelling incidents in the NFZ since they are not using heavy arms. Besides, troops engaged in humanitarian mission are cautiously stepping forward with least harm to civilians,” he added (Daily News).

Of those propaganda hit men - A few days ago the army monitored a conversation between the LTTE's arms procurer turned spokesman KP and a senior Tiger leader trapped in the Vanni via a satellite phone. KP asked his beleaguered colleague to do whatever possible and hold out as he and his foreign allies were doing their best to save them. Less than two days later, a story was floated that a large number of civilians had been killed in an army artillery barrage. It was sourced to a person calling himself a government doctor in the LTTE-held 'no fire zone'. The Health Ministry has denied the presence of any ‘government doctor’ in that area! (The real source was the LTTE’s web arm TamilNet.) Obviously, the LTTE spin doctors were trying to prepare the ground for Sri Lanka's humanitarian situation to be taken up by the UN Security Council. British and French Foreign Ministers David Miliband and Bernard Kouchner––who look Thomson and Thomson in Tintin comics because of their well coordinated yet inane actions––made, true to form, another abortive attempt to move the UN Security Council against Sri Lanka the other day. Their thundering pratfall signifies the solidarity of the civilised world with Sri Lanka (Full Editorial in Island).

Navy foils LTTE attempts to breach defences: 17 LTTE boats destroyed, over hundred cadres killed - 17 LTTE boats were destroyed including several suicide boats and over 100 sea Tiger cadres were killed in the seas off Mullaitivu by naval troops during the last few weeks, said Navy spokesman Commander Mahesh Karunaratne. Addressing the media yesterday at the MCNS, Commander Karunaratne said the Navy foiled several attempts of the sea Tiger cadres to break the naval defence lines and destroyed 17 LTTE boats and captured two suicide boats. “Most of the destroyed boats were on suicide missions. Over 100 sea Tigers were killed during the sea battles that erupted in the seas off Mullaitivu during the last few weeks,” he added. The LTTE cadres are making desperate attempts to break the highly fortified Naval defence lines following orders from their high ranking commanders. He noted that the LTTE have increased suicide attacks to break the naval blockade, however the naval troops tactically foiled their efforts. “We are facing difficulty to differentiate fleeing civilians and the LTTE cadres posing as civilians. However, the naval troops moving recognise the LTTE cadres and civilians,” Commander Karunaratne added. “The LTTE leadership was aware that the naval defence lines were strengthened, even though the LTTE cadres were ordered to try and destroy the naval blockades to find out any available opportunity. Therefore, the LTTE cadres are deploying small boats packed with at least 50kg of C4 explosives. The Navy is ready to face any eventuality,” Commander Karunaratne told the Daily News. He said the Navy have rescued over 20,000 civilians fleeing from the LTTE clutches (Full report in Daily News).

Minister slams biased media - Pause not possible with LTTE - Maximum effort to rescue all civilians - Freeing every single civilian our victory - The media were out of control during the last few days. International media institutions specially, had been reporting totally biased information to tarnish the image of a sovereign nation, said Defence Affairs spokesman Minister Keheliya Rambukwella. Some media institutions reported that Government Forces were shelling the No Fire Zone and it killed over 1,000 civilians and injured 1,600. They reported that children and women were among the killed and wounded. “We totally and categorically deny this baseless and fabricated information which had been obtained from the Tamilnet website,” he told the media yesterday at the MCNS. He asserted that Tamilnet was providing fabricated and biased information during the last few years and the LTTE had given credibility to this website. “We have proved that Tamilnet was providing fabricated information on many occasions and it is not new for this pro- LTTE website. What I regret is that these media institutions have reported without any verification,” the Minister said. He said this report was false and soon they will prove to the world who was behind the carnage that took place in the NFZ. “We will not give in to accusations against the Government by certain media. We will prove that false reports were disseminated provided by the LTTE,” he added (Full report in Daily News).

UNP Leader trying to betray country - Enterprise Development Minister Mano Wijeratne yesterday said UNP Leader Ranil Wickremesinghe is attempting to betray the people and the Motherland before the international community to cover up his ineffectiveness. The Minister expressed these sentiments in response to UNP MP Lakshman Kiriella who has said that the Opposition Leader’s European visit will uphold the people’s democratic rights denied by the Government. Minister Wijeratne asked whether UNP Leader Ranil Wickremesinghe is capable of proving that democracy is threatened in Sri Lanka. What UNP leader Ranil Wickremesinghe and UNP MP Lakshman Kiriella should first do is to establish democracy within the party and educate the members and the public about it. He said Wickremesinghe is striving to hang on to the leadership with the help of Executive Committee appointed by himself after a series of election defeats. The Opposition Leader and his cronies are acting as they have been stranded when the Government led by Mahinda Rajapaksa is at the last leg of eradicating terrorism which has plagued the country’s development for decades. The Minister said the Opposition Leader and his cronies will be thrown into the dustbin of history if they do not support the Government’s endevour to create a unitary state free from terrorism at this crucial juncture (Full report in Daily News).

Security Council refuses to swallow LTTE bait - Top diplomats from Britain and France were rebuffed on Monday (May 11), when UN Security Council members refused their request to discuss the on-going hostage rescue operations in Sri Lanka, despite the extensive and relentless LTTE propaganda efforts to spin tables in its favour, expecting a breather, the government said in a statement posted on the Defence Ministry website. The council members that opposed taking up the issue were not named. Foreign Ministers of Britain and France David Miliband and Bernard Kouchner were joined by Austria’s Michael Spindelegger, the Federal Minister for European and International Affairs, to protest against inaction by the 15-nation council. When asked which council members opposed their request, Miliband said, ‘We can only speak for ourselves. Others can speak for themselves!’ "We are clear, this is an issue that the UN Security Council should address; it involves major civilian loss of lives and distress," Miliband said. "It does have ramifications for the region. We as European members of the UN Security Council, we believe that the issues belong here," he said (Full report in Island).

A bouquet for Mahindapala - by Michael Harvie - I read with interest the letter by Mr. Mahindapala in your online edition of May, 11. I want to congratulate you, and him, on the publication and contents of that letter. It was politely said, but, the message is clear that Sri Lankans will not be fooled by American double standards and bafflegab. The Tamil Tigers must be eliminated, their leaders tried, and executed. It is trite to say, but, one cannot make omelettes without breaking eggs. Fighting wars for the preservation of one’s values and nationhood are inevitable. None of the Western nations would tolerate a group like the Tigers within their own borders. Yet, they are hypocritical enough to suggest that Sri Lanka should do so. Mr. Rajapaksa has it right. Finish the Tigers off, then ensure that the Tamil people have their rightful place in Sri Lanka. The Tamils are a hard working, clever, law abiding people who will contribute greatly to the prosperity of Sri Lanka when given the chance. We need more erudite, hard hitting contributions from people like Mr. Mahindapala to appear in the Sri Lankan media, and the internet (Island).

China tells London times Hambantota is a normal commercial project and no military one as they try to depict - By Walter Jayawardhana - China criticized the London Times article that said the Hambantota harbour which China is helping Sri Lanka to build as a refuelling and docking station for China's navy as distortion of facts. China categorically called the Hambantota Port project as normal commercial activity despite how it is described by London's Murdoch owned newspaper. "Any attempt to distort the facts would be invalid," Foreign Ministry spokesman Ma Zhaoxu in a statement issued in Beijing. He was commenting on a report by the Times of London, which said in report published on May 2 that China was building a port in south Sri Lanka "as a refuelling and docking station for its navy." The spokesman said China's relationship with Sri Lanka is based on the five principles of peaceful co-existence. He described establishing social stability , economic development and national reconciliation as fundamental Sri Lankan aspirations. Hambantota Port project is a major development scheme started by the present government with the target of improving the island nation's shipping, transhipping, ship building that would simultaneously beef up trade facilities also at Colombo.

BRITISH MP’S ARE OUTRAGED BY THE LTTE DEMONSTRATION AND SPEAKER CALLS IT HIJACKING OF THE PARLIAMENT - By Walter JayawardhanaThe Speaker of the British House of Commons Michael Martin charged that the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) demonstration on May 11 hijacked the British parliament obstructing the duties of elected members. In an obvious reference made to filthy unsanitary conditions created by the weeks long demonstration by the Tamil Tigers in the parliamentary square the Speaker said, “to hijack an important part of this city—with hunger strikers, tents and food stalls, but no toilet facilities—is not the proper way to conduct a demonstration.” Charging the LTTE demonstration violated the democratic rights of the others the speaker said , “Many of us were involved in demonstrations before we came into the House, because demonstrating is part of a democracy, but we would have those demonstrations and then leave. No one has ever expected a demonstration to hijack Parliament square and the roads, and thereby stop others performing their democratic duties.” Many members of the House of Commons were reportedly outraged by the Tamil Tiger demonstration that turned into a mob. Sir Patrick Cormack (South Staffordshire) Conservative Party member even suggested stricter methods against the demonstrators. He said, “Further to that point of order, Mr. Speaker. When you have your discussions later this week, will you please discuss with the Metropolitan Police Commissioner the advisability of bringing in an implement that would be used in virtually every other capital city—the water cannon?” But the Speaker turned down the suggestion by telling , “We have enough problems without water cannons; we do not need water cannons.” (Read full report).

British parliamentarians furious at pro Tamil Tiger demonstrations in London city - By : Janaka Alahapperuma from London - "Our Capital city has been brought to a standstill by a bunch of demonstrators who have, in effect, occupied Parliament Square" Hon MP for Aldershot, Mr Gerald Howarth angrily told at the House of Commons debate in British Parliament on 11th May 2009. Mr Howarth was supported by many other British Parliamentarians including the Speaker of the House of Commons, Rt. Hon Michael Martin. Speaker MP Martin said "demonstrating is part of a democracy, but no one has ever expected a demonstration to hijack Parliament square and the roads, and thereby stop others performing their democratic duties". He also promised the House to provide more information regarding this matter, later in the week. Police said "These demonstrators have taken the British Law into their own hands". Tamil Tigers are considered as a banned terrorist group by the UK government. However Police further said that they have noticed red flags being flown at the protests bearing the symbol of the Tamil Tigers. This would clearly indicate to British public that the banned terrorist organization is the main force behind these illegal demonstrations. Even though they deny any link with Tamil Tigers, protesters chanted their support for the Tamil Tigers at each and every protest..... The Hansard Report of the Debate is as follows (Full report in Sri Lanka Defence Ministry).

Hillary Clinton’s disappointment - I was very disappointed to hear the US Secretary of State and other American spokesmen offering ridiculous solutions to the tragic war in Sri Lanka. Then I realised the spokesman Robert Wood is not an expert on S.Asian affairs and that his expertise or experience has mostly been in Europe. We cannot fault him for failing to grasp the complex problems in Sri Lanka. He probably had not even heard of Sri Lanka until he joined the foreign service in 1988. Like most Americans, he probably did not pay attention to events around the world except through 30 minute news broadcasts. However it is disappointing to hear an intelligent person such as Mrs. Clinton: the quintessential Democratic Hawk on Iraq, and "being tough on terror" candidate during the elections she lost to Obama, ignoring the responsibilities of the Tigers to let go of the civilians they are keeping as hostages. It is appalling that she did not ask the Tigers to lay down their weapons or to stop hiding behind civilians. Instead she like some Boarding school ma’m, decided to chastise Sri Lanka by saying she is "disappointed". Those were the very words she used when her husband was caught doing un-Biblical things in the Oval office. "Disappointment" is not the word to be used at a time Sri Lanka is fighting against all odds and taking steps to end the fratricidal war so that a sensible and equitable political devolution coupled with economic development can take place in the North (Full letter in  Island).

IMF swindling the Third World - I refer to Dr. Garvin Karunaratne’s article of 13th April 2009, in The Island newspaper, under the caption "How the IMF Swindles the Third World". I must heartily congratulate Dr. Garvin Karunaratne, an eminent academic, and educationist, for a brutally candid, article, on the part played by the IMF, in funding third world nations. It is my earnest hope that this informative article is read by all patriotic citizens, especially when the Government of the day is negotiating for a 1.9 billion loan from the IMF. What really happens with this sort of lending, is that it leads to deficit budgeting, where all third world nations fall into debt, with excess expenditure on luxury items, and it encourages us to sell our assets to fund the loans taken, and finally push us to take loans for non developmental projects (Full letter in Island).

A TAMIL WOMAN WITH 17 DAYS OLD INFANT WITH BULLET WOUNDS TELLS REPORTER : IF LTTE FIGHT FOR US HOW COME THEY SHOOT US - By Walter Jayawardhana - Stewart Bell of the National Post is one of the most experienced and knowledgeable Western reporters about the Tamils of Sri Lanka and the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam . The Canadian reporter now in Sri Lanka covering his favorite story asked a Tamil woman in a hospital with a 17 days old infant with bullet wounds an interesting question. “Asked how she felt about the Tamil Tigers, who have led a three-decade rebellion for the creation of a Tamil homeland, she smiled. "When they started, they said they are fighting for the Tamil people, but if they say so, how can they shoot us?"“The rebels gave them no choice. They threatened to shoot anyone who tried to abandon them, Mrs. Dhanalakshmi” told the reporter. By listening to several like her Bell said he could understand the glimpse of the life inside extremely narrowed rebel territory. The following is the full story: “Just 17 days old, the girl was fast asleep in the slender arms of her mother, whose hip was bandaged where the bullet had struck. “Born in a bunker in the heart of Sri Lanka's northern war zone, to a lullaby of shelling and gunfire, she escaped last week in a fishing boat with her mother (read full report).

Troops consolidating near Waddawakal causeway - Security Forces poised to rescue the remaining trapped civilians, entered the currently demarcated No Fire Zone (NFZ) yesterday morning while troops of the 59 division which had advanced 300m are now consolidating their position around the Waddawakal causeway. Addressing the media yesterday at the MCNS, Military spokesman Brigadier Udaya Nanayakkara said LTTE cadres confined within five sq km in the new NFZ, are making desperate attempts to hold their position with all means and power they possess. He said 6 SLLI and 12 SLLI infantrymen of the 59 division after crossing the LTTE constructed earth bund and ditch North of the Waddawakal causeway yesterday morning advanced further 300m. “Advancing troops of the 59 division inflicting heavy damages to the LTTE cadres are now consolidating their position at the newly established defence line in Sarwathottam located south of the previous NFZ,” he added. Meanwhile, troops of the 58 division moving from the north have entered the new NFZ countering LTTE attacks. “Three LTTE suicide bombers hiding inside underground bunkers have blown themselves as advancing 58 division troops closed-in on them”. In a subsequent search operation, troops recovered 25 bodies of Tiger cadres, 20 T56 assault rifles and other warlike items,” Brigadier Nanayakkara said. He said over 188,500 civilians fleeing from LTTE captivity in Mullaitivu sought protection with the Security Forces. “Around 90 civilians have reached troops of the 58 and 59 division today,” he added. He noted that three child soldiers who surrendered to troops on Sunday have been handed over to the police. Five other LTTE cadres had surrendered to troops on Monday. Two were child soldiers (Full report in Daily News).

Ranil's sojourn - UNP leader Ranil Wickremesinghe is once again out on a sojourn in the Western capitals at a crucial passage in Sri Lanka, this time as a crusader for democracy and human rights in the Sri Lankan state. His professed claim to save democracy in Sri Lanka as the reason for his latest visit to the EU countries is laughable if not for the gravity of the statement impinging on the country's dignity and honour. Addressing a news briefing at the Opposition Leaders' office UNP front liner Lakshman Kiriella said that Wickremesinghe during his European tour was only hoping to seek support of the Western countries to safeguard democracy in Sri Lanka adding that democracy was facing it's worst challenge in the country. In what way Wickremesinghe plans to persuade countries of the West to safeguard democracy in Sri Lanka is unclear other than prevail on these countries to use economic aid as a bargaining chip. Significantly Wickremesinghe's trip also coincides with crucial negotiations on the Rs1.9 billion-dollar aid package Sri Lanka hopes to secure from the IMF (Read full Editorial in Daily News).

Huge boost for ‘Api Wenuwen Api’ from Sri Lankan Diaspora in Italy - The Sri Lankan community in Italy, irrespective of any party affiliation or other considerations has fully supported President Mahinda Rajapaksa in his endeavour to eradicate terrorism. Given below are excerpts of the interview with Sri Lanka’s Ambassador to Italy Hemantha Warnakulasuriya to Asian Tribune: Question: We have received information that the ‘Api Wenuwen Api’ program in Italy has been a great success. Ambassador Hemantha Warnakulasuriya: I believe that the ‘Api Wenuwen Api’ program held in Italy was a historical event, as it collected an unprecedented amount of money, nearly Euro 300,000, beyond the expectations of the organisers and the Embassy itself. Leaving the expenses, we are certain to remit about Euro 280,000 (Rs. 44 million) to Colombo, but we are expecting other generous donations and we are striving to achieve the target of Euro 300,000 (Full report in Daily News).

The suffering of civilians cornered by Human Rights Watch - by Prof. Rajiva Wijesinha - The Anglo American Corporation Human Rights Watch is now engaged in a campaign, along with its patrons, to denigrate Sri Lanka in the eyes of the Human Rights Council in Geneva. This follows its campaign throughout 2009 to dissuade civilians from leaving LTTE controlled territory to refuge with the Sri Lankan Government. In both cases, the HRW agenda fits in with that of the LTTE. This may not be deliberate, but it is certainly convenient for the LTTE. Now that the LTTE is reduced to using the civilians it has entrapped, not just as a shield, but as a weapon of mass destruction, HRW has begun to issue lengthy descriptions of their suffering. It ignores completely its own contribution to this suffering, through its protracted campaign to suggest throughout 2008 that the civilians were as well off with the LTTE as they would be with Government. In July last year, when it became clear that the Tigers were forcing civilians to accompany them as they retreated into smaller and smaller areas, HRW began the game of claiming that the facilities the Sri Lankan Government provided for refugees were internment camps (Full report in Daily News).

Major obstacle for lasting peace in Sri Lanka - The LTTE uprising in the North of Sri Lanka in the 1970s surfaced as a protest against the discrimination of Tamils and consisted of a small group numbering a few hundreds. However, from the mid 80s onwards the organisation grew rapidly with the exodus of Sri Lankan Tamils seeking refugee status in various developed countries such as Canada, United Kingdom, Germany, Australia, France, Italy as well as other Scandinavian countries since mid 1980s the growth of Tamil population in those countries amassed to very large numbers (Full report in Daily News).

CANADIAN TORIES SAY THEY WOULD NOT TALK WITH TAMIL TIGERS BUT THEY ARE PREPARED TO TALK TO OTHER TAMIL LEADERS - By Walter JayawardhanaThe Tory party who are in power in Canada have repeatedly refused to meet any representatives connected with the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) to discuss  the situation in Sri Lanka. “The Canadian government is concerned about the humanitarian crisis Tamils face in Sri Lanka but officials are not prepared to meet with anyone who might represent the terrorist group Tamil Tigers," Bev Oda a cabinet minister who recently visited Sri Lanka was quoted having said. A news website said, Bev Oda, the federal Minister of International Co-operation, said that she visited Sri Lanka last week and was "frustrated" by what she saw there. "I think right now we've got to pay attention to the humanitarian crisis. Right now it's dire and we have to try and continue asking for a ceasefire," she told CTV's Canada AM in a televised interview from Ottawa , the website further said. She said the government "shares the concerns" of Tamils living in Canada and is prepared to meet with local community leaders other than LTTE related ones. According to what she told in Parliament  on Monday afternoon, she was concerned when she saw the number of flags depicting the Tamil Tigers logo at several protests that have taken place across the country (read full report in SPUR).

Two-pronged assault to decimate Tigers Karuna turns ‘deep blue’ - Tiger chief trapped in 5 sq. km - Amidst LTTE’s attempts to force the UNto intervene in Sri Lanka, the Army has carried out a two-pronged assault to tighten its grip on the LTTE trapped on the Mullaitivu coast. Army Chief, Lt. General Sarath Fonseka has ordered the 59 Division, deployed south of the newly established no fire zone, to advance northwards while the 58 Division fought its way into the safety zone amidst heavy LTTE resistance. The ground operations conducted in the past 48 hours had brought the war against the LTTE closer to an end, Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa told The Island. Well informed sources said that the government wanted to bring the offensive to an immediate end. An attempt would be made to finish off the LTTE units trapped in the safety zone within 48 hours, sources said (Full report in Island).

Tigers’ had 10 branches of Eelam bank - Police investigations have revealed that the LTTE had operated ten branches of the Eelam Bank mainly in the East and in the Vanni. Three of the branches were at Kokkaticholai in Batticaloa, two at Sampur in Trincomalee and five other branches in Vanni. However these banks ceased to function following the liberation of the East and Vanni but Police were unaware as to the fate of several millions of rupees deposited by the people. Investigations also revealed that large sums of money had been remitted to the Eelam Bank by the Tamil Diaspora. It is believed that Tiger hierarchy would have collected all the funds when they realized that defeat was imminent, sources said (Full report in Island).

Why west is against Sinhala Buddhists - by Nalin de Silva - About five years ago very few people believed that some western powers led by Britain were the force behind the LTTE and Tamil racism, separatism and terrorism. Even today not many people are of that view. However, by now many Sinhala people have begun to talk of double standards of the British and some others in the west. Most of these people would not have thought that good old Britain could have double standards on any matter as it was the attitude that had been given to them while they were at schools and universities. Recently a group of students from a different institution came to me to find out whether the western attitudes on terrorism had changed after the so called September eleven. They would have had thought that the west is now taking a tough stand against terrorism and as a result Sri Lanka is on the verge of defeating the LTTE. Little did they know that the Sri Lankan victory over terrorism is in spite of the western policy on terrorism, and not because of it. These students knew that USA has forced Pakistan and Afghanistan to fight against Al Qaeda and in their innocence thought that the west had the same attitude towards the LTTE (Full report in island).

Canada says protest gives image of LTTE involvement - The Canadian government says Tamil-Canadian protests, including one that shut down a Toronto highway on the weekend, are giving people the idea that a terrorist group is part of the demonstrations. Minister of International Co-operation Bev Oda says she noticed red flags being flown at the protests bearing the symbol of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam, the Sri Lankan guerilla group that has been engaged in a prolonged civil war with government troops in that country on behalf of the ethnic Tamil community. The Tamil Tigers are considered a terrorist group by the Canadian government. Oda told CBC Newsworld that the flags being flown "would say to Canadians that ... the terrorist organization is part of the demonstrations that happened." Some protesters chanted their support for the Tamil Tigers at Sunday’s highway protest. The thousands of people who flooded onto the Gardiner Expressway left only after receiving assurances that the Liberals would raise their plight in Parliament. Liberal Leader Michael Ignatieff says he will continue to press the Harper Conservatives on the humanitarian crisis in Sri Lanka but is distancing the party from the demonstration itself (Full report in Island).

Ground realities in Sri Lanka expose colossal naivete among the world leaders - by Michael Roberts - With the LTTE cornered and restricted to a tiny patch of isthmus beside Nanthi Kadal Lagoon ever since 6 April, the world has witnessed a menagerie of world leaders playing the game "throw egg on my face." On 22 April Hilary Clinton told the world that "a terrible humanitarian tragedy" was taking place in Sri Lanka and demanded a halt in the fighting so that "we could secure a safe passage for as many of the trapped civilians as possible." Remarkably, for a superpower leader with access to up-to-date information Clinton appears to have been some 48 hours behind breaking events: namely, the escape of some 107,000 Tamil "civilians" (doubtless including Tiger cadres who had given up the fight) from their hell-hole situation after a commando operation carried out by the Sri Lankan army on the night of 19/20th April. Alternatively, one must conclude that Clinton read this miraculous tale as something that spelt a humanitarian disaster — hence my use of the egg metaphor (Full report in Island).

Western media mafia is in a massive mis-information campaign against Sri Lanka saying Sri Lanka Army killed 257 civilians. This is a fabricated lie.

Traitors, UNP leader Ranil Wickremasinghe, SLMC leader Rauff Hakeem and TNA leader R. Sambanthan are seen here talking before they met with visiting British and French Foreign Ministers. French Foreign Minister Bernard Kouchner and British Foreign secretary David Miliband, arrived Sri Lanka for a one-day visit, had earlier said that they failed to secure an agreement from the government to end an offensive against LTTE.

UN Security Council refuses to swallow LTTE propaganda pills - Top diplomats from Britain and France were rebuffed Monday (May 11), when UN Security Council members refused their request to discuss on the on-going hostage rescue operations in Sri Lanka, despite extensive and relentless LTTE propaganda efforts to spin tables in favour, expecting a breather for the internationally proscribed terrorist outfit now facing total defeat. The council members that opposed taking up the issue were not named publicly. Foreign Ministers David Miliband of Britain and Bernard Kouchner of France were also joined by Austria's Michael Spindelegger, the Federal Minister for European and International Affairs, to protest inaction by the 15-nation council at UN headquarters in New York. When asked which council members opposed their request, Miliband said, 'We can only speak for ourselves. Others can speak for themselves.' 'We are clear, this is an issue that the UN Security Council should address, it involves major civilian loss of lives and distress,' Miliband said. 'It does have ramifications for the region. We as European members of the UN Security Council, we believe that the issues belong here.' (Full report in Sri Lanka Defence Ministry).

59 Div cross over LTTE built earth bund at Wadduvakal: capture 300m of territory - The 59 Division troops led by overlooking Div Commander, Brigadier Prasanna Silva have stepped-up into the on-going hostage rescue operation, with initial advances made by 6 SLLI and 12 SLLI infantrymen crossing the LTTE constructed earth bund cum ditch North of the Wadduvakal causeway, early this morning (May 12). According to latest military reports, the initial forward military thrust was followed by the induction of Special Forces resulting in a rapid wipe-out of the remaining terrorist resistance in the area. Troops have advanced 300m further into LTTE defences after consolidating positions at the Wadduvakal causeway, military said. The capture of the causeway and adjacent territory is of immense tactical importance considering the existing ground context, a defence observer said adding that this would inevitably open-up another alternative escape route for the civilians held hostage by LTTE terrorists. Not only troops have secured the Wadduvakal causeway, entrance to the Mullaittivu shallow waters, but also denied terrorists the use of the Nanthikadal lagoon minimizing concentrated LTTE attacks at fleeing civilians, the observer further said (Full report in Sri Lanka Defence Ministry).

'LTTE trying to cover up failure to prevent exodus ' says Secretary Defence - LTTE spin doctors in a last ditch bid to force international intervention yesterday (May 11) claimed that over 3,200 civilians had been killed in an artillery barrage directed at no fire zone on the Mullaitivu coast over the weekend and on Monday. Secretary Defence Mr. Gotabaya Rajapaksa refuting the LTTE propaganda pieces said that this accusation was made to cover up death and injuries to several hundred civilians in the no fire zone at the hands of the LTTE. The LTTE had fired mortars and small arms at about 1,000 civilians trying to escape over the weekend killing and wounding about 250 men, women and children. Defence Secretary Gotabaya Rajapaksa in an intervies with The Island daily said that the LTTE had directed mortar fire after sentries failed to prevent people escaping towards the army-held area. About 750 had managed to reach army units operating in the area (Sri Lanka Defence Ministry).

U.S. Government provides additional $6 million in short-term relief to IDPs in northern Sri Lanka - The U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), through the Office of U.S. Foreign Disaster Assistance (OFDA), has donated $6 million (Rs 720.5 million) for non-food aid assistance to provide short-term, life-saving interventions for IDPs in northern Sri Lanka. This is in addition to USAID's recent announcement of a $15 million (Rs 1.8 billion) donation of food aid to the U.N. World Food Program. "I am pleased that USAID can provide this short-term relief, which complements our substantial food aid donations to assist the civilians affected by the conflict in the North," stated USAID Mission Director Rebecca Cohn. "The Government of Sri Lanka has stated its commitment to return people to their homes as quickly as possible, and our aid supports that intention. By helping to meet people's immediate needs while they are temporarily away from home, our funding will keep people safe and healthy while the Government prepares for their return," she continued (Full report in Sri Lanka Defence Ministry).

LTTE spin docs created casualty figures to cover up failed bid to stop civilian exodus – Gota - Tigers retreat leaving two anti-aircraft guns mounted on double cabs, one 30 mm weaponby Shamindra Ferdinando LTTE spin doctors in a last ditch bid to force international intervention yesterday claimed that over 3,200 civilians had been killed in an artillery barrage directed at no fire zone on the Mullaitivu coast over the weekend and on Monday. The Defence Ministry said that this accusation was made to cover up death and injuries to several hundred civilians in the no fire zone at the hands of the LTTE. The ministry said that the LTTE had fired mortars and small arms at about 1,000 civilians trying to escape over the weekend killing and wounding about 250 men, women and children. Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa told The Island that the LTTE had directed mortar fire after sentries failed to prevent people escaping towards the army-held area. About 750 had managed to reach army units operating in the area. The Defence Secretary said that the LTTE would say anything now to win the attention of the international community. International news agencies quoted reports posted on the pro-LTTE Tamilnet on slaughter of men, women and children by the army. The LTTE urged the international community to force an immediate halt to the Sri Lankan offensive (Full report in Island).

PRESIDENT RAJAPAKSA SAYS THE COUNTRY HAS BEEN COMPLETELY REMOVED OUT OF ANY DANGER OF A DIVISION - By Walter Jayawardhana - President Mahinda Rajapaksa categorically stated that Sri Lanka has been completely removed out of any danger of a division. He also assured , “ We will not allow any forces to raise their heads to divide this nation,” addressing a nurse’s celebration of International Nurses Day that falls on the birth anniversary of Florence Nightingale, the founder of modern nursing. The President of the State Services Nurses Union, Venerable Muruttetuwe Ananda Thero donated 2.5 million Rupees collected by the nurses for the welfare of the soldiers. President Rajapaksa further addressing the nurses said the fate of Sri Lanka seems to be extremely good as shown by the tons and tons of Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) weapons now being taken out by the country’s security forces from their hidden places in the Wanni jungles. If they had been put into use, the country would have had a terrible devastation, he said. He added everybody should look after the welfare of the heroic soldiers fighting in the most dedicated fashion. “You must look after them like you would do to your own sons and daughters. Sometimes they do not have time to change their uniforms for days. They barely have a wink of sleep after an exhaustive day under a tree,” the President said. Rajapaksa said if all government servants serve in the same dedication like the soldiers the improvement of the country would become a simpler task (EOM).

Crocodile tears to win the Tamil votes in the forthcoming Parliamentary elections

What a cunning Tamil politician

Guess; How many "Thoses, Roti and Wades" under the pillow

31 arrested in Tamil protest at British parliament - Police arrested 31 people after hundreds of Tamil protesters waving LTTE flags brought traffic to a standstill outside the British parliament in the middle of Monday-morning rush hour. Police made the arrests after some 500 protesters calling for a ceasefire in Sri Lanka broke through police lines at around 10.30 a.m and squatted in the middle of the road in front of the British parliament in central London. Sri Lankan Tamils have been protesting outside the parliament for weeks, but have so far confined their demonstrations to Parliament Square - a grassy patch across the road from the parliament buildings. But Monday's action was precipitate by the reported massacre of some 430 Tamil civilians in northern Sri Lanka Sunday. London Police, which diverted traffic and close all vehicular approaches to the parliament, objected to protesters waving flags of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE), a terrorist organisation that is banned in Britain, Sky News reported. Last month, two Tamil protesters jumped into the Thames river and several arrests were made during a march attended by thousands. Tamils have also targeted the Indian High Commission and the Chinese Embassy in London for often-violent protests, leading to five arrests outside the Indian mission April 27 (Full report in Malaysia Sun).

UN spokesman to be questioned on adverse remarks -  Disaster Management Minister Mahinda Samarasinghe yesterday said the UN Spokesman in Sri Lanka Gordon Weiss would be summoned to the Foreign Ministry over his comment to the media that there was a bloodbath in the No Fire Zone. Addressing a news conference at the Presidential Secretariat Samarasinghe said "It is not the first time that Weiss has gone beyond his mandate and made adverse remarks about the internal strife in the country. We have every right to deal with him." Weiss made these remarks to the AFP news agency on Sunday. Foreign Secretary Dr Palitha Kohona responding to a query whether he had questioned Weiss over the remarks at issue said, according to protocol he did not deal with officials at Weiss’ level (Full report in Island).

LTTE has started firing indiscriminately at the fleeing Tamil civilians

According to the defence.lk special correspondent at Karayamulli Vaikkal, five LTTE cadres including four child soldiers surrendered to Army 53 Division on Monday, 11 May have revealed that LTTE had brutally crushed several civilian attempts to seek refuge with the armed forces during the weekend.

"We were given orders to shoot anyone, even at our parents if they dare to seek refuge with the soldiers, leaving LTTE leader unsafe" a 16 year old child soldier among the surrendered said.

"Yet, we did not want to do that, we saw senior LTTE cadres firing shells and machine guns at boats carrying large groups of women and children on Saturday morning (May 9), many had died" , the boy further went on to say.

BBC - What they do not wish to see - These are deliberate campaigns to extend the suffering of the civilian hostages while throwing a life line to an internationally banned terrorist outfit and its notorious leaders who are most wanted for war crimes and crimes against humanity, said a defence official referring to a BBC news report, Sunday (May 10), carrying a pro-LTTE propaganda piece claiming the "death of 378 people" and "1,122 civilian casualties". The BBC Sinhala news report citing unofficial and unverified medical sources as coming from the civilian safe zone said that at least 378 people were killed and 1,122 others injured, also claiming fierce artillery shelling from the Sri Lankan security forces. The Sri Lankan military has vehemently condemned the untruthful allegations as the latest propaganda ploy by LTTE to discredit the SL government at the informal session of the UN Security Council on Monday (May 11). Such attempts are not new in the Sri Lankan context as the LTTE has continued time and again in similar relentless campaigns in the jaws of defeat, the official said (Full report in Sri Lanka Defence Ministry).

Firing ‘heavy weapons’ into the No Fire Zone - by S. L. Gunasekara - Hysterical accusations of our troops firing `heavy weapons’ into the `No Fire Zone’ with astronomical casualty figures given by Doctors in the LTTE controlled area [who are technically State Officers but follow the orders of the LTTE] and indignant denials by our Forces have now become the order of the day. The LTTE which continues fighting and prolongs the conflict only because they hope some Western Countries [who with supreme arrogance style themselves the "International Community"] with or without India will intervene in the conflict and bail them out, have much to gain by concocting such atrocity stories – indeed that is the only means they have of saving their necks. Our Forces too must, perforce, deny such accusations even if they are true, both to keep their honour intact as well as to stave off such interference. How does one determine what the truth is? In order to get at the truth, we must necessarily start by considering the facts of which there is no doubt i. e. those that are not in dispute. The first such fact is that the LTTE is cornered in an ever-shrinking small pocket of land [which, according to TamilNet, is now about 7 Square Kilometres] and includes the No Fire Zone (Full report in Island).

Deportation of Channel 4 reporters - by Lasantha Abeywickrama - I had a look at the relevant news item telecast on Channel 4 in. I was shocked at first, but then I had a second look at it. Here are my observations. 1. The video of the camp does not reveal anything incriminating. The people look perfectly happy. They look much more relaxed and better dressed etc. than when they arrived from the NFZ. 2. The woman being interviewed, alleges that her daughter has been taken. However, there is no evidence of rape etc. only a list of assumptions. It is a fact that a lot of LTTE cadres have come out as civilians. They need to be screened. 3. The dead bodies – where are they? why were they not shown? 4. All the accusations are made by nondescript characters (three in all). They only show shadows. These could be anyone especially LTTE agents/sympathisers. There is no confirmation of what is said. 5. As opposed to unsubstantiated statements above, the government has been able to show via video footage (both at ground level and UAV) that the LTTE is shooting its own people. This news does not go on Channel 4. Why? Because it does not support their agenda which is influenced by LTTE supporters. 6. Our High Commissioner in UK made a complete mess of the interview. We should get more competent people in these places. In my own opinion, the reporters, their company and the UK government should be happy that they were just deported without being tried in Sri Lanka (Full letter in Island).

LTTE has started firing indiscriminately at the fleeing Tamil civilians

A 23 year old Tamil youth, the eldest among the surrendered to Sri Lanka security forces told that he decided to dessert the outfit with the younger ones, after witnessing the carnage on Saturday.

"I could not guess how many died. I could no longer stand this treachery against my very own people..., so I decided to quit ".

Meanwhile, Sri Lanka Army electronic warfare units on the same day received three separate radio transmissions indicating LTTE had actually attacked the civilians. The following are the English translations of the three Radio communications.

LTTE takes heavy beating: Troops seize control over terrorist gun positions - Vellamullivaikkal - 58 Division troops now operating South of Rektavaikkal have advanced further 800m and positioned at the outskirts of the newly declared 2km long civilian safety zone while destroying several LTTE gun installations today (May 11). 11SLLI, 9GW and 10GR infantrymen have forced into several LTTE strong positions overwhelming terrorists and seizing a cache of weaponry, heavy earth moving vehicles and explosive devices. Meanwhile, 9VIR troops have captured an LTTE bunker positioned constructed with cement, which was said used as a command post cum artillery position to mount attacks at the advancing security forces. According to ground troops, terrorists have trapped the area with improvised explosive devices including phosphorous bombs and have also used USAID donated vegetable oil cans as improvised barrel bombs (Full report in Sri Lanka Defence Ministry).

Paris temple attacked - Sri Lankas main Buddhist temple in Paris, France was attacked by suspected LTTE supporters on Sunday evening, said a spokesman from the foreign ministry. He said a group of seven masked men had arrived at around 7.00 pm on Sunday and smashed the windows of the temple. The Chief Monk of the temple, the Ven. Paravahera Chandraratane Thero, and another monk had been present at the time, but no one had been hurt. On the same evening, a group of Sri Lankan Buddhists had held Vesak celebrations at the temple -- including a ‘Dansela’. The spokesman said the temple authorities had informed the police soon after the incident. Police had immediately rushed to the scene and started investigations. The entire attack had been recorded by the CCTV system at the temple, he said. After the incident, the Sri Lankan Embassy in Paris had written to the French Foreign Ministry requesting immediate action to protect the Sri Lankan Community and the Buddhist temples in France. The embassy authorities also advised the Sri Lankan community living in France to inform the police of any threat or any attack. Earlier there were several attacks on Sri Lankan shops in France by suspected supporters of the LTTE (Daily Mirror).

LTTE has started firing indiscriminately at the fleeing Tamil civilians killing many children

Tamil medical officer, Dr V Shanmugarajah said he could not confirm that figure but said the makeshift hospital he is working in - at a school in east Mullaivaikal in Mullaitivu district - had so far taken in 378 bodies. He said 106 of those killed were children.

Interrogated terror suspects reveal Malaysian connection - By: Jude Samantha Police have collected more particulars about a ring allegedly collecting funds for the LTTE based in Malaysia. These details were gathered following revelations by four suspects arrested by the Udappuwa police from Kattakaduwa, Mangalaeliya, where a hand grenade was also found buried. The owner of the premises from which the terror suspects were arrested in had absconded to Malaysia and was believed to have 13 passports in his possession police said, adding his elder brother domiciled in France was also engaged in collecting funds for the LTTE. His wife too had been arrested by the police. She was found to frequent Mannar as discovered by the police. The Mundalama police had commenced interrogation of the suspects now in custody (Full report in Daily Mirror).

LTTE commits bloodbath against civilians; more evidence surface - During the last three days there have been a concerted effort to discredit the Sri Lankan Armed Forces and the Government of Sri Lanka with a determination to pin the label of genocide against the Tamils on the government. What had been planed well ahead by the LTTE masters, and they may not anymore be Prabhakaran, is to cause a situation where thousands will be slaughtered by the Armed Forces fire. And that did not happen. Now that the Tigers are desperate and refusing to allow the last of the civilians they are holding as human shield aided by the Diaspora who have become a nuisance and danger in the streets of some countries in the West and directed by the internationally wanted criminal KP or Selvarajah Pathmanathan, vicious news reports are being constructed to mislead the world community. They are so much at drakes and ducks or call it sixes and sevens, they could not agree on the figures of those killed because the LTTE news constructors like Tamilnet say some 300 to 400 but KP puts it as 1000 and others let their perverted imagination run riot (Full report in Sri Lanka Guardian).

45 LONDON LTTE MEN ARRESTED FOR BLOCKING STREETS NEAR PARLIAMENT HOLDING TRAFFIC FOR HOURS, VIOLENT DISORDER AND ASSAULT ON THE POLICE - By Walter Jayawardhana - London’s Metropolitan Police arrested 45 Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) protestors when they moved from parliamentary square and blocked roads leading to the parliament , Monday May 11. The arrests came after the London LTTE members blocked traffic in the area for several hours and the police tried to move them off the road. They defied the police announcement through loudspeakers that their move was illegal. The LTTE , a banned organization in UK as a terrorist group, were carrying the official flag of the terrorist outfit , and have been taking the law into their hands when they attacked , the Indian High Commission , Chinese Embassy and Sri Lanka High Commission buildings during the past few weeks using the parliamentary square as a meeting ground. They also beheaded the Nehru statue close to the Indian High Commission building. In their attack against the Sri Lanka High Commission several police men were also injured. The Metropolitan Police said the 45 Sri Lanka Tamils were arrested for “willful obstruction”, “violent disorder” and “assault on the police”. Out of the initial 500 protestors about 400 remained on the Great George Street after the arrests. Even after the arrests there were still pockets of people on the earlier blocked roads and traffic were being still diverted. From early April British authorities allowed them to hold a 24 hour protest from the grass patch in the parliamentary square flying their Fascist Tiger flags with the Westminster parliament in the backdrop. The embassy attacks were directed from the parliamentary square. From the grass patch the LTTE protestors moved to two sides of the square blocking access to White Hall close to No. 10 Downing Streets. They were shouting slogans to stop the war. Their leader Velupillai Prabhakaran is surrounded by Sri Lankan security forces . The LTTE to win sympathy indiscriminately used artillery fire against Tamil civilians killing scores of them , and blamed the deaths on Sri Lanka, the Sri Lanka army said (EOM).
