COLOMBO CITY BUS BOMB BLAST, SRI LANKA
TAMIL TIGER TERRORISTS MASSACRE CIVILIANS AGAIN
THE THIRD CITY BOMBING IN TWO MONTHS
Few hours ago (12:00 Hrs Sri Lanka time 17:30 Hrs Aust EST 05 March 1998) the Tamil Tiger terrorists (LTTE - Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam) exploded a high power bus bomb in Maradana, in the precincts of Colombo, the Capital of Sri Lanka killing an estimated 50 and maiming nearly 200 civilians. This is the third time in two months the terrorists attacked civilians with high explosives. It is clear proof that the terrorists are desperately trying to pressurize the government and the world community into stopping the successful military operations against the last vestiges of their power in the north east of the island. An obvious secondary objective, of course, was to create a back-lash on the innocent Tamil civilians to attract world sympathy towards the Tamil Tiger terrorists who pose as the sole representatives of Sri Lankan Tamils. It should be noted that half the inhabitants of Sri Lankas capital, Colombo, are Tamil and more than half of all Tamils in Sri Lanka live outside the so called "Tamil Homeland" in the "Sinhala areas".
It was a great coincidence that one of our members was speaking to a colleague in Kelaniya, a suburb some 20 km from the explosion and was shocked to hear the blast over the telephone. Subsequent investigations revealed that at that time, 53 people were dead and more than 256 were admitted to the premier emergency hospital in Maradana. It is not yet clear whether the hospital itself was the prime target because the bomb apparently had been exploded near the hospital after the police intercepted the vehicle on suspicion.
The Tigers are recognized as one of the most vicious international terrorist organizations by several countries including India where the High Court sentenced the Tamil Tiger leader and 25 other cadres to death for killing former prime minister Rajiv Gandhi. On 08 October 1997 USA declared the Tamil Tigers as one among the top 30 international terrorist organizations of the world. USA banned all these organizations and will bar supporters from entry in to the country, ban any form of fund raising and freeze all their assets. President Clinton said : "Now we will encourage our friends and allies to do the same within their own borders". Canadian Federal Court on 29 August 1997 declared that the LTTE is a terrorist organization harmful to Canada and ordered the deportation of the Canadian Chief of LTTE. The courts also observed that various "Tamil Groups" including the World Tamil Movement are only fronts of the LTTE.
The Sri Lankan community in Australia staged a massive demonstration in Melbourne on 9 February 1998 and in Canberra on 13 February 1998 calling the Australian government to ban the LTTE and its front organizations in Australia. The incomprehensible delay in banning such a vicious international terrorist organization and its fronts which siphon an estimated 1.5 million dollars a month collected through coercion and extortion of the Tamil Diaspora in Australia to the Tamil Tiger terrorists in Sri Lanka will certainly cause more crimes against humanity in the next few months. In these years leading to the Sydney Olympics it would eventually show its effects on our soil, albeit too late for Australia.
"Terrorism is the willful causation of terror in the hearts and minds of innocents who take no active part in a conflict. Whatever the perceived or declared objective of such acts they should be condemned without qualification." such is the definition of terrorism. However, some sections of the Australian media are still reluctant to call the Tamil Tigers terrorists, probably until they terrorize Australia. And, not so long ago a Hong Kong based correspondent of a Victorian news paper attempted to take the blame of the infamous Colombo City Center bombing in October 1997 away from the Tigers, basing his story on a telephone call from just one propagandist woman in Melbourne! These are signs that the Australian media is not yet awake to the truth and the whole truth. Probably they are being influenced by clever approaches of the Tiger lobbyists. Reports of frequent inhuman terrorist atrocities are usually garnished with statements such as: "The Tamils are fighting against discrimination and to liberate a Tamil homeland in the north and the east". It is only necessary to speak to a true representative of the Sri Lankan community here to enlighten the listeners/viewers that both this much publicized concepts of "discrimination" and "homeland" are deliberate myths easily sowed in foreign minds which naturally tend to favor their perceived "underdogs". Tamil Tigers are worse than Nazis: they tell the world that the Tamils are a superior race and to consider them as equals is "discrimination". In fact, the Sri Lankan situation is somewhat similar to South Africa before the independence - a state where the majoritys rights are trampled to favor a minority whose leaders try to make them believe that they are superhuman! What is worse, the elected leaders of the country bend over backwards to please the extremist racist terrorists just to cling on to power.
